The summer months had been slow at Dervish and Banges. Summer in general had been slow. It seemed as if the entire season had droned on, one miserable elderly customer after another...each one with their own story. Each one just looking for good bargains. Max had spent the entire summer keeping to himself, offering little to no leeway on his prices. It wasn’t in his nature to haggle...especially with people who were looking to dupe him because he looked younger than all the other shop keepers. Max sat down in the upholstered chair that was in the sitting room of the store, staring out the window. Yes, the summer months had been almost unbearable. Then again, they always were, in Maxim’s opinion. The students from Hogwarts left, meaning no visits during the months, which left the villagers of Hogsmeade with little to nothing to do with themselves. It was almost pathetic, the way that they depended on the students of that bloody school.
Max leaned back in the chair, pressing his back against the foam padding of the seat. He crossed his arms across his chest, his blue eyes still trained on the window. He watched as the raindrops trickled down the window pane and then disappeared onto the ground. No one was outside on a day like this, meaning business was even slower than usual. The longer that he stared at the window, the more that he realized just how much he wanted to go outside. He wanted to feel the crisp air and inhale the scent of fall. He wanted to wander aimlessly until he lost all daylight. But he knew from living in Hogsmeade for over three years that when it started to rain, it was rare for it to stop.
Yawning slightly, Maxim’s eyelids drooped slightly. It wouldn’t be so bad if he fell asleep, he reasoned to himself, it was unlike that anyone would even stop by the store today. So with that train of thought, he let his mind wander like his body so desperately wanted to, and closed his eyes completely.
Nearly five minutes later, he heard the sound of the door’s bells tingling as someone walked into Dervish and Banges. Max all but jumped out of his chair, moving swiftly across the room and entering the main part of the shop so that he could greet his customer. He stopped in the doorway behind the desk and leaded on the doorframe, “Looking for something in particular?” He asked, dully, folding his arms across his chest yet again and waiting for this customer to answer.
