“Miss Selwyn, you have a visitor,” The young healer stood at the door and Astrid looked up from the magazine that she had idly been staring at. The same page for over an hour, now. The Healers took notice of her inability to function unless they were actively pursuing her.
“I am not expecting any visitors today,” The woman answered, lifting her wrist to point at the board that was across from her bed. It was a calendar, with each of the days meticulously filled out by the staff of St. Mungo’s. It was designed to keep Astrid grounded - to make sure that she was fully aware of what she had going on for the day. Often it was hard to get her to do anything that wasn’t explicitly planned out on the calendar.
The Healer moved across the room and laid her hand on Astrid’s shoulder, “He’s here to take you out again, won’t that be nice?”
Curious eyes now searched the Healer’s face; Astrid was trying to figure out exactly what she was insinuating. There were only a few people that she let in to visit her and whoever this was would have to be on the list that she had written up her second day in the Wing. Her heart immediately started pounding in her throat. Surely it couldn’t be Valerian...she had taken all the necessary precautions so he wouldn’t know where she was. Not after...not after-
She got to her feet and pulled her overly large sweater around her shoulders as she lifted her chin. Ast knew this day was going to come eventually - she would have to face her husband and then who knows what would happen. She could only hope that this would all blow over one day...although she knew that it would be impossible for her to forgive him for-
Her thoughts got jumbled again as Astrid slipped into the slippers that were near her bed and followed the Healer out of the room and down the corridor toward the lift. She knew that she would have to go all the way to reception to greet her unexpected guest. The lift ride was short and silent - Astrid wondered if the girl could hear the pounding of the blood in her veins. They stepped out and she saw a figure near the front desk. Immediately, her heart was in her throat - would she be able to face him?
“Professor Adams?” The young girl called out and Astrid breathed a sigh of relief. Ezriel. She had almost forgotten that he came to visit her on occasion. There he was, standing near the desk and Astrid was overcome with the strangest urge to hug him.
“Ezriel.” For the first time in a few weeks, the feeble woman managed a gentle smile at the sight of her friend.tag: @ezriel
