Issac was shaking as he placed the old book down on the desk near the back of the library. Sneaking into the restricted section could get him expelled or at least in serious trouble. The book, dull brown with faint silver engravings was labeled 'Evils of Asia.' Dust coated the cover and it creaked as Issac opened it slowly. The smell of mold and time filled his nose and he sneezed. His heart jumped and he glanced around quickly. Once he was sure he hadn't been discovered he looked back down at the book.
Issac wasn't a bad kid, nor did he have any intentions of hurting anyone. he did however, have a serious problem with the fact that nobody, not a soul knew who he was. All his life Issac had been told stories about a hero, someone who saved the lives of the innocent and be praised for centuries. The fairy tale knight that saved the princess was always something he wanted to be. Surely one of these books would contain some link to hidden, powerful magic he could get his hands on. Evil to Issac seemed to be something that was created by the person behind the power. if he could find something, anything that would give him an edge over the normal wizard, maybe he could use it to defeat evil itself and be the hero he wanted.
With each turn of the page he read deeper and deeper. Thin, small writing made it a hard read, but he was determined. The chapter he was reading described an evil little type of gnome, ones that harassed traders in feudal China. An army of gnomes? Issac laughed inwardly as he though of a throne carried by little men with pointy hats, himself sitting as witches and wizards waved at his parade. It was a ridiculous thought, and these things seemed to be not only extinct but way too mischievous to be controlled. Thus Issac, king of gnomes was gone as the page turned.
