Dodge. Duck. Roll. She had to practice. Jess had to be the best on the team, especially since she hadn’t even picked up the game of Quidditch until this year. It wasn’t nearly as popular in the States, so she had never bothered to try out for the Salem Institute team. But here it was life itself for most students. James Potter had suggested she try out for the team after seeing some of her football moves on the ground. Yes Jessie liked to play American football back in the States, not on a school team, just in the yards for fun, always as a receiver. She had been told, on and off the field, that she had great hands. Jessie couldn’t help but grin at the double meaning of that thought.
The American had never really tried flying before, more than simply to complete the class her first year and participate in a few races every year and such, but she loved being in the air, she was just usually too occupied on the ground to get much airtime. She pulled up sharply at one end of the pitch, turned broom around, laid down flat on it and zoomed towards the goal posts on the other side. She squinted her eyes against the wind as she gained speed. Closer, closer. Just a bit closer, ”NOW! She cried out as she executed a near flawless barrel roll away from the solid posts barely two inches away from it. She did this again and again, never noticing that she had a visitor. It seemed to be something of theme with her to not notice when someone else had joined her when she was alone. She was doing this to get more comfortable with opposing players coming at her directly so that she didn’t veer her course too soon and loose speed. Even for chaser, speed was one of the most important things. Of course speed was everything for a seeker.
