Ayumi looked at the broom in her hand. It was a new one, from her parents. It was the Nimbus 1001, the broom favored by professional Quidditch teams. It was new, just out, and she was one of the first to have one, outside the professional teams, of course. She hadn't ridden it yet, so she'd decided to take the Saturday to get in some flying practice. She hadn't bothered to put her robe on that morning, knowing she was going to the Quidditch Pitch. As she made her way down, she was stopped by some other students who were amazed at her broom. She knew the Nimbus 1001 was a high-grade broom, and a brand new model at that. Her parents had bought it for her when she'd sent them an owl telling them that she'd made the Gryffindor Quidditch team. She had been on the junior team at the Majo Gakuen, but the junior team didn't actually play against any other teams for real.
As Ayumi approached the Pitch, she looked around at the grounds. She hadn't had the time to really look around the grounds until recently, having had to play catch-up. She'd managed to get caught up with everything except Transfiguration, which she'd always had a hard time with. She sighed, reaching her right hand into her pocket to feel for her wand. She didn't want anything to happen, and she knew the tricks the Slytherine students played on Gryffindors, and she wanted to be prepared in case something else happened.
Ayumi walked onto the pitch and took a moment to look around. When she saw it clear, she swung her leg over the broom and kicked away from the ground. She was shocked at the speed of the broom, pulling to a stop about thirty feet in the air. She smiled, loving the feel of the wind in her hair. She leaned forward and shot through the air toward one end of the pitch, turned, and flew to the other end without stopping. She pulled up at the end of the Pitch, throwing her head back as the wind blew it back from her head. She turned again and raced through the air, laughing at the feeling flying gave her. Flying made her forget about her life on the ground, about the life she left on the ground.
She was just beginning to get warmed up when she saw someone else walk onto the Pitch. She slowly descended, staying a foot or two above the ground. "Are you here to practice too?" she asked.
