Of all the things Miri liked about teaching, there was one thing she definitely didn't like, and that was grading tests and essays. Well, no, that was a lie, it was mostly tests. Essays were at least interesting to read. But every time she picked up her quill to grade a test she just wanted to do everything up what she knew she was supposed to. Today, though, she was determined to make it not that bad. Her lessons were done for the day, and she was absolutely determined to get rid of this mountain of paperwork before the weekend arrived. She really didn't need that kind of damper on her only two days off.
She had a glass of wizarding brandy on her desk and the record player she brought to Hogwarts and had bewitched to work was blaring The Beatles' Hard Days Night. She thought she was terribly clever, but The Beatles were one of her favorite bands in the entire world and if their music couldn't make her feel better than nothing could. Luckily for her, the music and the brandy were doing just what they were supposed to. She grinned as she crossed off a wrong answer and circled the right one. Sometimes she swore that people didn't pay attention at all in class. Why bother taking the elective if you had no interest in the subject? She sighed to herself before placing her quill down and taking another sip of her brandy. She looked around the classroom for a moment, imagining all of the students sitting in the desks they sat in each day. Some of them she knew were sleeping, others she knew were more intrigued than they cared to say. And those were the students that made her job worth it.
She glanced back down to the test she'd been grading and and finished it up rather quickly, knowing she still had what seemed like a zillion more to get through. The tape flipped and Here Comes The Sun came on, and Miri smiled to herself. This was her absolute favorite song by them. It was the only surefire way to make her feel better no matter what. She pulled another test in front of her and began looking it over when she heard a creaking floorboard near the door. She looked up toward the door to see a boy there that didn't look familiar to her.
"Hello," she greeted with a smile before waving him in. "Can I help you?"
