Bellatrix wasn’t sure what to tell him. She knew what he wanted to hear, but she also knew that she probably didn’t have it in her to give it up to him. She shook her head, trying to get the confusion of tangled ideas out of her mind, ”Of course it’s for the house-” She breathed into the air between them, biting down on her lip as she finished the statement. She looked up into his eyes, trying not to let anything show through, trying to keep her face a blank slate. But she knew that he could probably see it. He could see that she wanted him to stay so that she could at least have a little part of him. Sure, their relationship might have been messed up from the very beginning and it might have been over, but she wanted to hold onto him for as long as she could. Perhaps it made her selfish, but she just couldn’t help it. Bellatrix Black had an unyielding soft spot for Zeke Maxwell. Then he demanded the truth and she felt like all the words were going to start falling out of her mouth. She wasn’t sure what she wanted to tell him, if there was a correct way to tell him, or if she should even tell him at all. She managed to rip her eyes away from his trying her best to stare at the wall and not answer, but she could feel his eyes searing into her own despite the fact that she was turned away, ”Listen Maxwell,” She began, still keeping her face turned, ”The team needs you. And as much as I hesitate to say it,” The pause in her voice gave way to her turning her head back toward him, ”The team would never forgive me for letting you walk away from us. So I guess in my own sick and twisted way, I need you to reclaim your spot, ok?” She breathed a huge sigh. If that was what he wanted to hear, than he could could himself lucky: it wasn’t everyday that Bells admitted that she needed someone in her life.
”I can’t have this entire team crumbling because we-” She paused, hyper aware that she had just referred to them as a we instead of two separate entities. She decided to press on instead of acknowledging it, ”Because we can’t keep off of each other’s throats.” She rocked back and forth on her feet, unsure of why she was telling Zeke all of this. For all she knew, this would be the only time that she would ever offer him an honest answer about what she was feeling about the team; it was only because of the look in his eyes and the desperation that was in his voice.
Bellatrix heard him moving, but it didn’t register that he had moved closer to her. It wasn’t until she felt his hand cup her face that she realized what was about to happen. Fear gripped her insides for but a moment as she met his eyes. And then, without fail, his lips were on hers. She could taste his anxiety for a moment, she could taste the pain, the anger...all of it was reflected in the kiss. She felt the residual leakage of feelings yet again; the dangerous relationship that they had once held together. The utterly imperfect perfect balance that they had managed to hold for the time that they had been together. Zeke was her balance sometimes; he kept her sane. He knotted his hands into her hair and her fingertips immediately interlocked into his own already messed-up hair. For a second, she realized just how wrong what they had was, but she couldn’t bring herself to care. It was then that Zeke pulled away and started apologizing. Bella remained where she was, her hands still in his hair, her green eyes scanning his face. Slowly her hands fell from his hair and moved to his shoulders where she squeezed gently, ”You just what?” She whispered into the air between them, trying to get a grasp on his emotions. She couldn’t tell which one was the most dominate at the moment. She determined that he was probably struggling with reality just like she was. And she couldn’t say that she blamed him. What had just happened was unorthodox to say the least, ”Are you going to tell me what’s been eating at you really, Z?” Her eyebrows furrowed slightly.
