There was no warmth in his home life, only cold tyranny. It was all business at the Manor. It was a constrictive childhood where what he was forced out who he might have been. This heavy-handedness saturated every aspect of his raising, from values to posture to interests. Lucius was brought up with a Classical education prior to Hogwarts – literature, the arts, music – but the influence of the father imparted something more sinister as well. In addition to high-brow subjects, Lucius was instructed in the nature of secrecy and of the Dark Arts, two things in which the Malfoys had been mired for millennia.
