brief history: Kol Lucian Van Zandt was born into a pure blood family that was much different than the typical in his time. Most families, still to this day were stuffy and snobs. The Van Zandts were so far from that stereotype, even if their name gave off the impression otherwise. Kol grew up the middle of three children. His older brother Davis works as an Auror, while his little sister, Bekah is a seventh year at Hogwarts. The family is very close knit and are big fans of family trips to different parts of the world. It was on one of these trips that Kol decided he wanted to teach Charms, using a spell he had taught himself to save his brother from an avalanche in the Swiss Alps. Sometimes all it takes is one amazing rescue when you are 15 to change your life.
Kol has been teaching in Salem for the better part of five years when he finally got the letter from Dumbledore, informing him of the vacancy left by Professor O'Ryan (who met a Veela over Spring Break and never returned for the remainder of the semester) and Kol jumped on it immediately. He had been in constant contact with Dumbledore as he and his brother had developed a very strong friendship with the Headmaster during their time in Hogwarts. That friendship had turned into a mutual respect and in recent months the contact had increased exponetially as the war approached. Rumors were growing louder and louder, a dark lord was coming and Kol and Davis led by Dumbledore would be ready to fight. Being inside the castle at a time like this made Kol feel better, he could do more good here than anywhere else in the world.
