Now We've Got Something I Can Imagine Fighting For || Cissa

For once in her life, Narcissa didn't have a response at the ready. There was no witty retort, no holier-than-thou reply. Honestly, she had not expected Kat's request. It was a bold move on the Gryffindor's part, especially when the person she was asking a second chance from was a Black. Not to mention the track record she had with Slytherin's and relationships. Cissa knew what her answer should be. She knew what she wanted her answer to be, at least. For some reason, however, she could not make her lips form the words. For once she was thinking of someone other than herself and despite how out of character it was, the act showed how much she truly respected the other girl.

Pulling herself up on the table, Cissa sat on top with her legs dangling. She looked down for a moment, her hair falling in front of her face as her shoulders seemed to fall. It was the posture of one who was about to deliver bad news. "You're a smart bird, Langley," Cissa's voice was soft, barely creaking out of her throat as if they knew the outcome of this meeting if they were uttered, "This thing....between you and me..." She looked up at the blonde, gesturing between them with one of her hands to emphasize her point, "It doesn't end well. In fact, nothing about it is going to have the warm fuzzy feeling you're searching for. Trust me. This is one adventure you don't want to embark on."

The words came spilling from her mouth in quick succession. Cissa could feel her heart breaking a little bit more with each sentence. Her throat was dry and her pulse had quickened. It felt as though the beating organ might break through her chest. She knew she should stop--maybe even give this thing a chance, but she knew what would happen to both of them if the wrong people were to find out. Bellatrix and the rest of her Slytherin cohorts she could handle, she wasn't at all worried about what they might do to her. What Cissa feared was the retaliation they might take against Kat. Unless she wanted to publicly come out to the entire world and make the distinct and permanent choice of which side she'd be on when the war did come, Cissa would be powerless to protect Kat from the wrath of her sister.

"We both know how this would end, anyways. The inevitable breakup after weeks--maybe even months of secretly meeting. Honestly, we probably wouldn't even make it that long. I would screw things up long before anything remotely serious could happen..." Her hands gripped the edge of the table as her legs swung idly back and forth. She couldn't look Kat in the eyes, because the moment their eyes locked, she knew she would be powerless. Langley would have her, and all bets would be off. Instead, she turned her head towards the potions room's door, studying every intricate detail of the dull, bland object, "You've heard the stories, I'm sure. I'm a sexual deviant, I can't help myself. Anyone, anytime, anywhere. Isn't that the gossip running about this god forsaken castle? Why would you ever want to chance your heart on someone like me?"

She fell silent for a moment, unsure if she had laid it on thick enough. She wouldn't look at Kat, not even in the same general direction. From the corner of her eye, she could see the basic form of the girl, and that was difficult enough. Cissa did this for her own good, and hopefully one day Kat would understand this. "You should go before anyone from Slytherin finds us. Trust me...it's better we don't start something that will end with pain."
