His ear twitched. Peter hated when that happened. It made him feel all itchy, but no matter how he scratched, the nervous tic would not go away. He had a lot of those; anxious little habits like tapping his fingers or getting fidgety legs. It was hard for him to sit still unless he was completely engrossed in something – like when there was sport to be had. James and Sirius did a great job of keeping him entertained that way. They never failed to find something fun to do, the sort of exciting adventurous things that absorbed Peter's sporadic attention. Although lately, he hadn't seen much of his friends. He wondered why. Were they mad at him; had they cut him out of the group? Then again, he hadn't caught the others hanging out without him. He would have seen it, too. Wormtail was nothing if not a good spy. He liked to wander around the castle in his Animagus form, just to see what he could find. Nobody ever suspected the rat... Though he had gotten many things thrown at him over the years and been singed by spells more than once. Anyway, the point was, he would have sniffed out his friends, if they'd been meeting up without inviting him. From what he had noticed, they all seemed to be particularly moody the last few weeks. There was something larger going on with his mates and Peter felt nervous about it.
But it would be alright. He was supposed to be meeting them today, wasn't he? Just like old times. Probably to plan some kind of elaborate prank or adventure. He was excited by the prospect and had every faith in Prongs and Padfoot to provide. Moony would protest, but in the end he'd come around, the way he always did. Wormtail stared at the blank wall in front of him. They were meeting at one of their usual spots, the Room of Requirment. By some strange hand of fate, Peter had arrived first. He was normally the last to show up anywhere. Now if only he could remember how to open the Room. There was a secret; he knew you had to picture something you wanted... But he couldn't think what you had to do to activate the magic. His shoulders drooped. It was so difficult to recall these kinds of things, and it was dispiriting to him every time it happened. Just earlier today, McGonagall had called him out on it in Transfiguration. He should have known what to do to change his parrot into a music box, just the same as he should remember how to get into the Room of Requirement... But in both cases, it simply eluded him. He would have to wait for James, Sirius, or Remus to show up and take care of it.
