Professor Ellis paced in front of the classroom. It wasn't his class, but a group of random students across all years. Everyone in the school had to attend this class, but as there were so many people, they were split up into random groups. He held his wand, passing it from one hand to another as he waited for everyone to take their seats and settle down. The students whispered amongst themselves, though some talked freely in their every day volume. He ran his hand through his hair before leaning against his desk, tapping his fingers on the table, though not really in any rush.
Gerard didn't know how he always managed to get stuck with these odd jobs. Chaperoning and having to talk to the students. He supposed it was because he couldn't really say no to the Headmaster. He greatly admired Albus and owed a lot to him. So when the Headmaster asked him for something, it was always a yes. Today, he had to speak to the students about the rules of Hogwarts.
His eyes rolled over to the counter above his door that showed how many people had entered the room. 29. One missing. The clock showed 3:05. Whoever the last person was, they were late. Unfortunately, he didn't have a roster. How Albus could know who attended, he had no idea. But as his job today was merely to inform, it mattered not to him. Tick tock, the hand clicked and clicked. Gerard crossed his arms.
"Quiet down," he said in a normal tone that was barely above the noise. He detested raising his voice and he rarely ever had to. When he spoke, he spoke as he did everyday, in a medium volume. Once the noise had come down, he scanned the room at each of their faces, recognizing many of them in his classes or once had his class.
"Alright, so when you all first entered Hogwarts your first year, you were informed of the rules. However," Gerard looked at a few faces, though none in particular, "some of you seemed to have forgotten them." He uncrossed his arms and held his wand at both ends, spinning it.
"So let's go over them again. Smoking, drinking, and taking drugs are not allowed. Curfew to be in your common rooms is 9PM. NO students, including you prefects in the room, Head boy and girl that includes you too if you're here," he looked around trying to find their faces, "are allowed to be out of beds."
There were more things that was brought to his attention, but pausing, he pushed himself off the desk. He took the cane that was set against the desk and pushed his wand inside. He had no need for a cane, but it was given to him by his great grandfather and was a costly piece that had been handed down the generation. He walked forward, towards the students.
"Before we move on, are there any questions about what I just said?" He thought everything was pretty self-explanatory and common sense. But some were slower, or faster, than others.
