Lucy almost grinned at Kat’s reaction to her confession. One of her favourite things was seeing people react to finding out Lucy was gay, but then she remembered the fact that Kat was too and the idea of grinning slipped off her face quite quickly. It was almost like she herself was put off by Kat’s homosexuality, although she couldn’t really explain why. She knew it was probably because she had never met another openly gay individual in her entire life, and she suddenly realized how everyone else felt when she told them her own little non-secret. It was certainly a slap in the face of reality that it was impossible to feel comfortable around someone who seemed so foreign from you.“Yeah, it is,” Lucy somewhat lied. She wanted to be happier with this fact, and she was certainly pleased that a girl so attractive swung the same way, but she couldn’t. She actually felt a little uncomfortable. She could see the fact that Kat thought Lucy was attractive, it was written all over the blonde’s face and hung on every word. She wanted to do something about it, but she didn’t want to be too intrusive. The other girl was certainly pleasant enough to be around. “I guess this is like two unicorns bumping into each other,” she joked lightly. “I think we must be the only ones in the entire school.”She paused and reflected on all of her options. She could leave Kat and avoid her like the plague; she could continue speaking with Kat until she knew for sure that she was alright to be around; or she could just work with it. Her words seemed to get stuck in her throat and she wasn’t sure what to say anymore. Kat had made her speechless, and that was quite the accomplishment. It wasn’t until Kat asked where they were to go that Lucy realized that she had absolutely no idea what she had had in mind. She just wanted to be away from prying eyes, but she could hardly voice that thought lest the other girl thought something creepy was going on.Lucy followed Kat’s lead and put her own jacket on as well. “I just thought we could go for a walk. Meander around town while everything’s closed. It’s not often I get to see such a sight. The whole town is empty.”
She realized that she was being rather nice to Kat. It wasn’t unheard of for Lucy to be nice, but it wasn’t exactly common either. It wasn’t a conscious decision to be bitchy, it was just what came from Lucy’s mouth. The simple fact of the matter was that it was how Lucy was. It just wasn’t until she was with Kat that some almost kindness seemed to shine its way through.
