full name: Mary Elladora Macdonald

age: Sixteen
birthplace: Dun Laoghaire Bay, Ireland
blood-type: Half-Blood
sexuality: Heterosexual
year/occupation: Sixth
three words to describe character: Witty, Guarded, Spontaneous

had it not been for the obnoxious combination of her dorm mate’s enchanted gramophone and the giggles of gryffindor girls preparing for a day in hogsmeade, mary would have happily slept her sunday morning away. unable to return to her slumber, she groaned and threw her pillow at the girls. “good morning to you too,” one of them laughed, throwing the pillow back at her.“red, haven’t you a meeting this morning with little miss perfect?”another girl added. that was one way to get her out of bed. while the gaggle of girls began to do impressions of jocelyn avery, mary was cursing herself for forgetting about their little tutoring session. pulling her head halfway through an old jumper, she realized there was no reason at all for her to rush. were it an appointment with someone of liked, daresay, someone she tolerated she would have been out of the dormitory in a flash but that was not the case with jocelyn. as mary began laying out a new outfit and debating which lipstick to wear with it, her friends looked at her as though she was mad. all mary could do was smirk and say,“patience is a virtue that i’m here to help teach her.”
there had not been a class in which mary didn’t have an outstanding or an exceed expectations so the moment her transfiguration grade slipped from acceptable to poor, she knew there was a problem. perhaps she hadn’t read the text as thoroughly as possible or wasn’t focused enough in class. but the real blow came when professor dumbledore, someone whom she thought the highest of, suggested she get tutoring from none other than jocelyn avery. ever since first year, a bit of a rivalry struck between the two girls, both of them being top notch students. what bothered mary more than anything about jocelyn wasn’t whether or not she was smarter than mary but the fact that she had such a superiority complex. mary always thought that for someone not in slytherin, she sure cared a lot about blood status. it annoyed her so that despite all the things she said to her, all the times she had gone out her way to annoy her, jocelyn still refused to let it affect her, acting civil at all times. perhaps she was an emotionless drone or just incapable of reacting to anything not of pureblood origin. either way, mary was hoping to get some sort of reaction one day and today felt like that might the day.
on the ground floor mary watched as flocks of her friends trickled out and onto to their day. outside the sun was beating brightly and an indian summer breeze whipped through the still green trees. she couldn’t blame them for wanting to exploit the pleasant weather before merciless autumn came yet at the same time she wanted them all to suffer what she was about to. through a crack in the door, she looked at jocelyn seated at one of the tables, papers and quills neatly stacked before her. without a moment to think about what she was doing, mary slipped her wand through the door and cast a charm that sent a giant gust of wind into the room, causing all the papers to fly and jocelyn’s hair to look like that of a troll’s. mary ran in, ignoring the papers everywhere and with an apologetic tone said,“oh my goodness, jocelyn. i cannot express how sorry i am for being late.”she then took a moment to look at her handiwork and couldn’t help but smirk.“so, what’s the plan, professor?”
