Max was in a particularly good mood. Maybe it was because he had finally gotten his entire mess sorted out in the Ministry...maybe it was because he had run into Jessica Lechance there...or maybe it was just because the full-moon had ended and he was no longer feeling irritable and stale. Being a werewolf was tiresome, especially for Max who stressed himself out about it. Every moment that he spent thinking about it seemed like agony - it forced him into brooding. But today was different: today he would open the shop with a smile on his face.
Walking to the front door of Tomes and Scrolls, Max flipped the sign to open and then propped open the door. Immediately a flurry of snow rushed into the building, sending a chill down his spine, despite the fact that he ran a little on the warm side. Snow blew into his face; reaching up, he dragged his large hand down over his nose and then shook it off. He wasn’t going to let this get him down...nothing was going to ruin today. Pushing the door closed, he decided against having them open today.
It didn’t register that this might be a unique and slightly disheartening string of back luck for the young shopkeeper. He was too busy trying to make sure that everything was in order for the Hogsmeade visit that the Hogwarts students were due for this morning.
Maxim walked through the shelves of books, straightening a few as he went. He wasn’t entirely paying attention to where he was stepping and his foot slipped on one of the floor boards, sending him half crashing into the shelf that he had been standing next to. Max rubbed his head and looked up at the towering shelf of books, eyeing it carefully as it swayed back and forth. He had two choices here - try and hold it up with brute force or run for his wand that was still in his flat in the back room.
Oh the bad mood at returned as the bookshelf toppled to his side: nope, no time for him to try and go for his wand now. Immediately he put his arms up, trying to keep it from falling down all the way and crushing him underneath its weight. Max heard the bells on the top of the door go off. Hands on the edge of the bookshelf trying to keep it from crushing him, the werewolf looked over at the girl that now stood in the doorway, ”A little help, would ya?” He practically snarled in her direction.
