Teddy was thankful to be in warm clothing again. After the disaster in the library, he and Zoe had gone back up to the common room. They had agreed to meet back up again in a couple hours so they could serve their detention. Ted had almost immediately retreated to his room, dried off with a towel and then put back on a pair of jeans, t-shirt, and a jacket he had lying around. He stood in front of the mirror adjusting his glasses and ruffling his hair every so often. He felt...nervous. Jittery almost. His eyes locked on his mirrored ones, he wondered why he was freaking out about this detention that he was supposed to serve.
Maybe it was because he finally felt like he had made a breakthrough with Zo. For years he had poured himself into getting her to notice that there was more to him than met the eye...and she had always been caught up with other guys. Guys on the Quidditch team, mostly. And now here he was, trying to figure out just how he was going to work himself up the courage to actually kiss her. Ted reached up and ran a hand through his untamed air, ruffling it up again. His eyes looked over his face one more time, determined that he was going to leave the mirror, lest Zoe leave for detention without him. Looking down at his watch he realized that he had been standing here for over two hours. Shit! Once more he looked up and something peculiar caught his eye.
Merlin! was that a zit on his chin?
Dragging his hand down his face, Teddy knew that this wasn’t going to get much worse. He was just going to have to do it. Tonight was the night that he was finally going to kiss Zoe Lechance. No matter that it was during a library detention. The library felt like the most romantic place that he knew anyway. He turned away from the mirror. Grabbing his wand, he pointed it at the spare potted plant that was in the corner of his room, causing it to bloom into thirteen different stems of lavender. He grabbed them and shook his head. Cheesy, cheesy, cheesy, He warned, but he thought that this just might do the trick. Teddy trotted down the stairs, anxiously awaiting his meet-up with Zo. It was no surprise that the room was already empty, most of the students on their way to their own nightly activities.
Teddy made his way down to the library and stopped in front of the door. Instinctually, he straightened his jacket and then managed to catch a glimpse of himself in one of the glass panels. Shaking his head,”Zoe?” He peeked into the library, looking for the girl that had seemed to have escaped him.
Instead of being greeted by the girl that he wanted, he found himself face-to-face with the unattractive librarian. “Mr. Tonks! So good to see you again.” The librarian’s voice was thick with sarcasm yet again and Ted found himself fighting back the laughter. This would most certainly put a damper on things, especially since the library was his sanctuary. Hopefully bringing the woman some of his mother’s homemade cookies might mend the bridge that he had (quite literally) almost burned this afternoon, “Miss Lechance has already started on that shelf over there, dusting all the old books off. I trust you’ll join her.”
He grinned slightly and nodded, heading over toward the shelf he had been pointed toward. Stopping at the opening, he leaned against the bookshelf and held the flowers out in the direction of the crouching Zoe, ”Miss Lechance, I believe I’m late for our dat-” He was about to say it again, ”Detention.” His lips turned up at the corners and his smile finally spread to the edges of his eyes.
