It was over a year yet before her graduation, and so these thoughts shouldn’t trouble her quite so much as they did. But with Bella’s graduation and impending marriage to Rodolphus Lestrange looming there on the horizon, it was difficult not to try and come to terms with the reality of it all. The sisters had played often as children, and one of their games had had to do with “playing house” as many little girls did. They’d known, even then, their marriages would likely be to men chosen by their parents. They hadn’t known that it would be all that would keep their family afloat financially. They hadn’t known that their father would die in the middle of the arrangements. They hadn’t known anything about the real parts – just the idea. And she, at least, had had a fantasy when playing the game. Andromeda had always dreamed that she had managed to fall in love anyway. It just happened that the man they picked was the man she’d held dear to her heart all along.
It hadn’t happened that way.
Instead, the three of them were betrothed to men they barely knew. Bella had Rodolphus – and she could barely even stand him. Things seemed to be better now... at least marginally, but the point still stood. And Narcissa, the baby sister, not even a proper adult in Andromeda’s eyes – she was engaged to Evan Rosier. It was hard to believe, even with her own betrothal as real as her own fingers. She glanced over at her sister and smiled. ”It’s a quiet night,” she said, holding her place in the book she had been reading with one slender finger. ”You’re not sleepy yet, either?” She was fairly certain she knew the answer, but she asked it anyway. She worried about Cissa – about how tired she must be. ”Because I was thinking we could play a game or something if you aren’t.” A gentle smile formed at her lips as she looked at her sister.
