Ever since her mother had been roaming the grounds of Hogwarts trying to figure out a few cases for the ministry, Adeline has been nothing but on edge. Sure Avona was a great woman and could fit into almost any situation. Pulling her coat tighter over her shoulders the pressures of being a sixth year were weighing heavily on her shoulders. Unlike her twin brother she couldn't just leave the school and expect things to happen, she had to try. Potions was her weak point, even though Benji had been helping her and she wasn't the best, but she's managed to get a little better.

Clutching a book under her arm, Addie made her way to the entrance hall and moved outside into the snow covered grounds. Tromping down the stairs in the freezing weather Ad's looked around. No one so far that was good. Some peace an quiet always did the soul good. Brushing a bench clean from snow, Adeline sat looking through the pages silently. Reading was the best thing should could think of to clear her mind even though it was a non-ficition piece.

Fluffing out her strawberry blonde hair the girl moved through chapters like water and it was no question she was a speed reader. Curls fell down her shoulders in waves as she pushed though a few more pages before changing her position. Adeline was a huge fan of the could, but being outside for such a long time could prove fatal if precautions weren't taken. Shivering a bit, Ad's leaned forward and pulled out a thermos of tea mixed properly for her tastes. Filling the lid to the brim she screwed the cap back on just as she heard the crunch of snow, meaning footsteps.

Being outside was probably Sirius' favourite place to be. Inside, people usually didn't want to be bothered - not that he usually cared (or noticed). Besides, more could be done outside, in his opinion. What was inside? The library? It was hardly a place Sirius thought was worth visiting. At least until it was crunch time near exams, and then was forced there by someone or another. He was internally grateful for those naggers, as without him he probably wouldn't pass... at least not with the grades that he got away with.

Sirius strode around for a while until his cheeks were quite rosy, and his fingers began to grow cold within his dragonskin gloves that he donned. It wasn't that it was that cold, he had just been outside for that long. He couldn't seem to find anyone. Perhaps the warm fires of the common room really were that enticing for most. He began to consider it himself until he saw a girl fan out some reddish locks. The girl's head was bowed, so it took until he was almost right upon her to recognize her as Adeline. He didn't know her particularly well, but they were in the same year so they communicated occasionally. Good enough.

Sirius sat next to her on the bench and took the book out of her hands rather unceremoniously. He tried to ignore his now rather cold arse as he had sat upon snow as he hadn't been paying attention to where he was going.

"Whatcha reading?" he asked as he flipped through the pages, not really absorbing any words upon the pages. He turned to grin at her, suddenly aware that his actions could have been interpreted as rude instead of friendly. Sometimes things like that struck Sirius rather later than the average person, but he tried to not let it show. Confidence was everything.

Addie was certain that Sirius was hoping to get a rise out of her, but rather than spilling her tea she let him fondle the hard-covered book about the last few months of Richard Nixon's presidency. Muggle stuff she knew, but it was an interesting read especially because it was true. "It's a Muggle book about Richard Nixon, an American President." Taking a sip from the small lid like cup so looked him over. The both of them looked colder than they needed to be so she grabbed a stick and transfigured it into a cup, filling it up for Sirius.

They weren't exactly close. Eddie had talked about him a few times here and there, and they took some of the same classes, but they weren't exactly on best friend terms. That didn't mean she had to be rude about anything. "Here drink some tea it'll warm you up and you can stay out longer." Handing him the cup lightly, she looked out across the courtyard and sighed.

"I'd ask you why you're outside and then if you're crazy, but I'm the one sitting outside reading a book when I could be inside, so it would be pointless." She laughed quietly looking him over for a minute. "I like your gloves." Addie didn't know what to say to him or how to spark conversation, usually she was fully immersed into studies, but with her book being removed from her hands it was almost impossible to escape.

Sirius eyed her tea for a moment. He hadn't noticed it at first, and that was a rookie mistake. His move of just trying to be friendly could have actually hurt her, and then he would have felt completely guilty. Her tea looked completely inviting, but he wasn't going to push his luck even further and take her beverage from her.

"American president? Why are you wasting your time on that rubbish?" he asked. It was like she read his mind when she Transfigured the cup, and he accepted it graciously. He put the book on his lap so he was able to hold the cup between his hands, allowing the heat to warm up his fingers slightly before taking a sip himself. He sighed in a satisfied way. "Ta."

Sirius flicked through the pages with one hand some more. If she was reading about some foreign leader, he had to be interesting in the least. "Ugly bloke, isn't he?" Sirius asked a little absent-mindedly, as if someone's appearance had anything to do with their competence of running a country. "Don't they have a Minister for the Ministry of Magic or sommat that you could read about instead? Doesn't seem like he's done anything great." As if his two seconds of flicking through a book had taught him anything at all. Sometimes the fact that Sirius was Pureblooded came out when he didn't mean to. He usually found Muggle Studies fascinating - really anything that was different than his family, but he also tended to speak before he actually thought about what he said.

It didn't really matter to Sirius that they hadn't spoken much before. As long as they weren't Slytherin, Sirius had no problems sitting down with someone and trying to get to know them.

"I'm actually surprised we've never talked more before, you know?" he said casually as he finished the tea in his cup. "You know, being in the same year and all. Surely I must have gotten around to you at some point, although I s'pose I am now."

It didn't seem to occur to him once that perhaps she didn't want to talk to him. It was like that option was completely out the window because she wasn't a Slytherin. As if there were people out there that weren't Slytherin that could potentially not like him. So far, to his credit though, he hadn't met one. Well, at least to his knowledge. Sometimes he could be pitifully ignorant of other people's emotions.

"What's crazy about being outside? It's gorgeous," Sirius said fondly as if he were talking about a particularly attractive woman. "It doesn't have to be three hundred degrees to be nice out. It's better than being stuffed inside." He smiled at her. "And you're right. If I'm crazy, then you certainly are, too. You're probably worse... you're studying and outdoors. Ravenclaws, I tell you." Sirius looked at his hands at her remark. He never really thought about what he wore. He wasn't even sure where he got the gloves. "Thanks... although they might be James'..." he added, thoughtfully, and then shrugged as if it didn't matter.

"Rubbish? Knowledge is power, I just like to read and non-fiction is my favorite. Be careful though, that's my dad's book." Addie listened in on what Sirius was saying after he took the cup of tea from her hand. Shaking her head. "Looks can be deceiving you know, not everyone has to be good looking to run a country or to be a public head." Kicking her feet in the snow to warm up her legs she sighed and shrugged.

"I've already read every book on every minister so far so there wouldn't be anything interesting I suppose. And getting my mind of the magical world for just five seconds is a God-send anymore." Clearing her throat and closing up the canister tighter, Addie brushed her legs and took the book back, letting it rest on her lap.

Surprised that they've never talked more? Whose fault was that? Certainly it was her own. Sirius made it seem as though she were nothing more than a mere object, and she understood, oh how she understood. With a sigh and a heave of her shoulders. "I suppose it's because I'm usually down in the dungeons blowing up cauldrons trying to hone my potion making skills which I so gallantly fail at. I don't talk much, and it's almost impossible to get me out of a book if I'm studying, so that could be it. I'm not very approachable."

Laughing Addie brushed her hair back again and tightened her jacket. "I don't know Mr. Black, we're both bloody insane if we're sitting out here in the freezing cold."

"If you say so," Sirius said in a disinterested fashion. He wasn't much of a reader at all, and he'd never spend his time reading about an American Muggle President, so for him he had a hard time imagining that someone else would actually take pleasure in it. To him, the only way someone would read up on something so boring was if it was a class assignment. "Is that why you're reading it? Because it's your dad's? Trying to catch up on conversation material with him?" Sirius was always so full of questions, sometimes ignorant ones or ones that others might have chosen not to ask, but he couldn't help it. Despite the fact that he didn't understand Addie's desire to read up on other people, Sirius found other people fascinating. He always loved to know everyone and know their quirks and what they liked or didn't like. "Is he a Muggle? I always wondered what it would be like to have a Muggle at home, especially if it were a half-blood home. I just don't understand where a witch and a Muggle would meet and fall in love and get married, especially when the Muggle didn't know until after they were married or a kid was born. I suppose they could have been childhood friends or sommat. I dunno," he realized he was rambling, but he couldn't help it. He always thought the subject was interesting, mainly because he couldn't see how it would work. He paused and stopped flicking through the book so roughly, mainly because for one he wasn't interested and secondly because he was lost in thought. "I think I could do it. I think I could marry a Muggle. I'm not sure how I'd feel if it was the other way around, what about you? I wouldn't mind helping my spouse out and showing her all the cool things I could do." he chuckled lightly. "Then again, some people call me a show-off." He looked at her in a way that almost seemed like he wondered if she would try to go against him being a show-off. Sirius knew what he was, but some people seemed to think he was a bigger show-off than others.

"I didn't say he couldn't do wonderful things because he was ugly, I was just stating a fact," Sirius said defensively. He handed her back the book. He wasn't sure if he hit a nerve or not, but he didn't want to continue down that route if so. He looked at her face as if he was trying to find a clue written plainly there that he had hurt her feelings or bothered her in some way.

"I suppose that would be a good thing for some. Personally I'm quite content staying in the magic world. I'm not sure if I'd survive out there in the confusing Muggle world," he admitted, hoping that maybe he could get a smile out of her by telling her that he wouldn't be good at something. People seemed to like when Sirius admitted faults. He didn't know why, but he picked up it sometimes. He didn't think Addie was the type to like that he could fail at something, but maybe the idea of Sirius plundering around in the Muggle world without a wand might cheer her up a bit. He only realized in that moment that she seemed kind of sad.

"Oh, I only said that because you're very, well, noticeable. I just always thought that I knew you and I don't. At all," he tried to explain, but he felt like he was failing. He wanted to nudge his shoulder against hers playfully, but it didn't seem to be the right mood for such an action. "Maybe the feeling isn't mutual. It's just you have a rather friendly face and I always just assumed that ... I don't know." Sirius smiled at her politely, but wasn't sure what to say and seemed at a loss for words temporarily, which was odd because he was just rambling at her moments before. "There's nothing wrong with having your nose in a book. Or blowing up cauldrons, either, for that matter. As long as you don't kill yourself, I mean. You can't be that bad at it, can you? It's a difficult subject but Slughorn seems to be really helpful. Have you thought about extra lessons?" Sirius didn't mean it in a hurtful way, he was just trying to be helpful considering she just said that she was failing. Sirius also didn't know, though, that Slughorn tended to pick favourites and although Sirius wasn't in his precious Slugclub, Slughorn always seemed to drift by Sirius' cauldron every few moments or so when they were in class.

Sirius paused at her words, but he smiled at her laugh. He was happy that she laughed. "I've been called worse before," he admitted. "How easy would it be to actually be insane, though? Wouldn't have to worry about a thing. Just in a blissfully ignorant state all the time. Well, if you're the right kind of insane. I guess you could say that those Death Eaters are insane, and they certainly have a mission." He shook his head and his dark hair fell forward. He pushed it back without a thought. He didn't mean to get so deep with his conversation, but the thought had just sprung to him. He didn't talk about Death Eaters much as they reminded him precisely of his family, but he never talked about his family, so he supposed the subject was safe. Besides, he couldn't imagine Addie being part of that crowd anyways.
