The house fell silent as Ash slowly tiptoed backwards from the nursery, closing the door with a faint click. Taking a moment to reassure herself the almost inaudible noise hadn't awakened the slumbering toddler on the other side of the door, she let out a deep sigh of relief. For the past forty minutes, Aislinn had rocked, swayed, cooed, sang, and rhythmically rubbed her daughter's back in an attempt to lull the child into sleep. Yet, her efforts had gained her nothing except a restless child. At least within the first fifteen minutes or so, Ash had managed to stop the ear piercing screams. Who knew such noise could come from such a small little being! Tegan had certainly given her mum a run for her money this evening. From playing finger paints with her dinner on the dining room wall to slipping past her after bath time to go streaking through the house completely nude, the entire night had been one adventure after another.
Closing her eyes momentarily, Ash rested her forehead against the bedroom door, a faint smile crossed her lips. Despite all the running around, chasing, constantly being on her toes and anticipating anything and everything that Tegan could possibly get into, Ash wouldn't trade any of it for the world. She loved being a mother; Every single minute of it. There was always some new discovery, some new milestone, and the look of wonder and amazement on her daughter's face was completely priceless. Given the chance to do any of it over again, Aislinn would never change the outcome. She had a beautiful home, a daughter she loved more than life itself, and a man whom she cared just as deeply for. Despite the years of parties, booze, sex, and god knows what else she managed to get up to, Aislinn had managed to get something incredibly right.
Of course, such happy notions can only occupy space in one's mind for so long before reality of current time comes crashing back down upon them. Ash's eyes popped open and she turned to face the empty hallway. A trail of bath toys led to the abominable mess in the bathroom left to clean up. The dining room most likely still had noodles and red sauce splattered against the wall where her little Van Gogh's highchair was placed, and there were puddles of water from where Tegan had streaked through the house after bath time. Ash leaned down in front of her and scooped up a wet towel and rubber duck from right in front of the nursery, then began her way downstairs. For now, the bathroom could wait. The dining needed to be cleaned, and she had to get a load of laundry going or else none of them would have any clothes to wear within the week. Ah, the simple joys of motherhood.
At the bottom of the stairs, sitting upon a cushioned bench that opened into a chest, there was a large brown laundry basket. Ash picked it up and held it between one hand and her hip while her other hand lifted the top of the bench. Originally, it had sat at the foot of her bed when she was younger, but with a new cushion and fresh paint job she and Cillian had managed to turn the thing into a toy chest for their daughter. Aislinn tossed the rubber duck inside, and left the lid open while she began collecting clothes, blankets, and used cloths from the living and dining rooms. She pulled out her wand and silently flicked it towards a wash cloth before maneuvering it towards the dining room wall. Without fail, the cloth began cleaning the mess Tegan had left while Aislinn continued on to the laundry room.
