December 24th, 1976
Albus sat with his hands in his lap, over looking the small group of students who had decided to grace Hogwarts with their presence over the holiday season. For some of them, it was a matter of choice - they had no interest in their home lives and an alternative had chosen not to present itself for them this year. And for others, it was a matter of necessity - he knew of quite a few students that had no where welcoming to turn for the holiday.
The graceful headmaster slowly stood up from his chair, waving his hands through the air to silence the small gathering of pupils before him, ”A very Happy Christmas eve to you all!” His voice boomed across the room and - although there was no need for the formality of a speech given the companions here today, Dumbledore was never one to give up an opportunity to make his voice heard.
”With the unfortunately cancellation of the Wizarding Cup-” Yes, the cup had been called off a few short weeks ago, due to the murder of Cygnus Black on the grounds. Since then, there had been an ongoing investigation raging throughout the corridors, Ministry officials prowling around his hallowed halls, and parents on red alert. It had seemed only logical that they called off the festivities until they could settle on the proper explanation as to what had happened, ”I think it only fair that we celebrate the holidays with a renewed splendor for what is to come.” The aging man waved his hands through the air and food began to appear on the tables in front of the students.
It was a Christmas feast that was fit for the Kings and Queens of old, and it was exactly what his students deserved. He reached forward and pulled his wine goblet from it’s resting place in front of his own plate and raised it into the air, ”To the Christmas spirit!” He said joyously, making deliberate eye-contact with each student in the Great Hall, ”May we always find that our path be lit by the light of the fir tree!” A knowing smile passed over his lips before he took a deep swig of his drink.
Let the festivities begin!
