Kiernan sat in the back of the library, her feet kicked up on the table, a nail-file in her right hand as she strummed the rough surface against the edge of her already perfectly manicured nails. She wasn’t studying, Merlin, she never came to the library to study. She was here because she had an essay due in Transfiguration and she could watch the fifth year Slytherin boy writing it while she was in the area...make sure that he was duplicating her slightly elegant hand-writing to a T.
”You’re perfect, you know that?” She asked the younger Slytherin boy as he continued writing as fast as he could upon the parchment that was due on Friday in her Transfiguration class. He lifted his head a little bit and gave her the slightest of smiles from the corner of his lips and all she wanted to do was slam his head onto the edge of the table. He was an annoyance, a pest, something that was only vital to her because she refused to do her own work. So she sat there, the only evidence that she was agitated in the twitch at her perfectly plucked eyebrow.
Someone was coming her way and Kier immediately dropped her feet from the edge of the table to lean forward and get a closer look. She recognized the way that he walked, head held high in the air as if he was king of the world. Jacen Frost, her darling brother coming down the library straight toward her. She had been informed about him months ago, after her grandmother’s heart-attack. The whole thing had been explained: How she had been the superior sibling and her grandmother had chosen her, giving up the pathetic boy for adoption. However, Kier wasn’t exactly sure how much Jacen knew about her. After all, Grandmother Frost had only just started speaking to him.
Immediately, she began shooing the little Slytherin boy away from the table, knowing that he would only get in her way if she let him stay.
Thinking quickly, she shoved her books off the table, allowing them to fall onto the ground with a loud bang, surely alerting everyone in the library that she was there, including the boy that was walking past her. Then she raised the nail-file and pointed at the ground, ”Oops, Do you think that you could grab those?” She asked, putting on her best show. Dark brown eyes went wide and she immediately let her lip pout out ever so slightly. If she was going to win over the darling older brother, she was going to do it on her terms, not his. She was going to make him think that she was an angel...and then yank the rug right out from underneath him, just in time to see his pathetic little life crumble under her careful destruction. Because Kerinan knew if Jacen didn’t go through with his betrothal as planned, then the family fortune would fall her to.
What a sweet victory her future inheritence would ring.
