Rita Skeeter- local gossip and drama queen- was on the hunt for a good story today. It was Sunday morning, the last day she had to find a juicy topic for her Hogwarts Headlines so that she would be able to review her writing during class tomorrow and post the paper for Tuesday! So far she had a bit about the increased crime rate in the dungeon halls, a poll on what the fifth year populous thought about their current homework load, and an advice column about how to get that acidic burning smell out of your potions robes. What she really needed now was a headline bit! Something jaw dropping and crowd pleasing, something to reel her audience in. She had a few leads already, but she hadn't been able to track anything down yet! She had hoped to do a bit about the recent tragedies that had occurred in the Black family, but her lovely friend Bella had threatened to break her wand, and her nose if she was to post anything about their personal life. that only left her with a few options.
Rita, dressed in an emerald green silk dress, black and white peek-a-boo heels, and a white feather boa, had herself pressed tightly up against the underside of the main staircase, and despite her extravagant outfit, was doing a fairly good job at keeping hidden. Rita had a way of disapearing into a crowd of the scenery if she chose too, and was a firm believer that if you gave someone something outrageous to remember- a green dress speckled in rhinestones, perhaps- they would forget to check the face behind the dress. It worked 30% of the time. The other 70%, she was talking so loudly, no one could ignore her!
The girl was so busy listening to all the conversations that passed her by, listening for the right voices, the she didn't even notice the skinny, curly haired no one walk up to her. "Rita!" the girl jumped and gave out a small shriek of surprise when he spoke, and turned quickly to see a stupid little boy with a stupid little smirk.
"I'm busy!" She hissed, "Go find someone else to bother, Ravenclaw!" She tried to turn her attention back to the stair case, but the boy kept pestering her.
"I need to know about a blond which in your house, Slytherin."
"There are a lot of blond witch's in my house, stupid little boy." The girl laughed, but her interest was bated. She loved gossiping. She turned her head to the side so she could just make eye contact with him. "Give me more and maybe I can help you out."
"She's got a Russian accent or something," Eddie spoke quickly, not wanting to lose the older girl's favour, "And she's really good at powerful hexes, and i think she's related to Eileen Harlow, from Ravenclaw."
Rita's databases ran quickly, and a light bulb soon went off, " Oh! you mean Stasja Carovski! Nasty piece of work she is! never wanna be on the other end of her wand! knows how to blast you away! She's pureblood- like moi! And- hey! Where are you going!" the boy was already racing away from her, and the girl pouted and stomped her foot on the stones floors of Hogwarts, " What a rude little prick! I should see what I can dig up on him for next Week's paper." she pouted and turned back to the stairs.
And not a moment too soon. if Rita hadn't been careful, she would have missed the masculine voice she had been waiting for. professor Carovski was making his way out of the great hall and up the stairs. This was her chance! The girl scurried around the stairs and raced up after him, " Excuse me sir! Excuse me!" Rita called out, trying to catch up with him, and pull a quil and notebook out of her purse at the same time.
"Hi! I'm Rita Skeeter- I write the independent paper here at Hogwarts!" She smiled sweetly, working her way up the steps, " I was wondering if I could get an interview with you? I have lots of questions for you!"
