brief history:
When John and Claire had their first and only son on March the 10th, they were ecstatic. He was handsome and perfect and they could not have asked for more. Remus was such a patient and quiet infant that Claire often had to rush back into the other room during nap to make sure he was still breathing. She doted on her child like she'd never love a boy again. There was no question in their mind about having a second child. Remmy was plenty and Claire couldn't imagine trying to spread her love to two perfect wonderful children. One was just enough.
As their family set off to a great start, so did Remus. He was smart and helpful, and the most caring boy in their neighborhood. Everyone loved him. The women from the other houses would crane over the fence to speak to Claire and set up play dates, and Remus knew just how to speak with all of them and had the utmost respect for the ladies. His best friend as a tot was a girl named Pheydra. They enjoyed making mud pies and tracing tunnels through the dirt to make water flow into big holes they'd dug.
But the friendship did not last through Remus' terrible fate. On what was seemingly a normal day for the seven year old boy, his father and mother were indoors, cleaning out their study, while Remus stood in the yard waiting for Pheydra to come out and play. They played all day long. The sky was warm and perfect for them to spend their entire time together just playing in the yard. It wasn't until the street lights came on that they even realized how late it was getting. Phey's mother could be heard calling her inside as the sky darkened and the moon came out. Remus was left to clear up the shovels and rogue sticks they'd been using as his mother called him in as well. As he reached the large bucket where the pair usually kept their "tools" Remus heard a noise in the back yard.
In a quick dash through the gate at the side of the house, the curious young boy ran right into the jaws of Fenrir Greyback. A werewolf. His father had come out to investigate a growling, but Remus' sudden appearance had disturbed the wolf, who was looking to extract revenge upon John Lupin for a disagreement they'd had just the day before. Greyback took off running just as John went for his wand. Claire was screaming bloody murder as she rushed to her boy.
Remus lay cradled in his mother's arms, staring up at the moon. He'd known exactly then what was in store for him. It was always obvious, even as he was so young. The healers did all they could for the pint sized child but there was no undoing this curse and they sent him home to be with his parents.
It took a good deal of adjusting for the Lupin's to get used to their son's lycanthropy. And eventually they worked out a system. Unfortunately, it called for Claire to teach him at home. That was until they received word from Dumbledore that Remus was fully allowed to attend Hogwarts. By this time they'd grown accustomed to his monthly changes, and were concerned not only for the safety of the other students, but for Remus' as well. How would the other children accept him?
They didn't. Not at first. Dumbledore had ensured that everything would be fine and that he would look after the boy by placing a tree on the grounds and allowing him safe passage to his own private change space. The Lupin's agreed and sent him off to Hogwarts where he was sorted into Gryffindor, however, this only fueled the bullying from the other houses. Slytherin especially. Remus only found solace in the library, where he could be alone.
It was quickly obvious that the boys in his dorm were not so very bad though, and James, Sirius, Remus, and Peter all became quick close friends. He missed Pheydra at first. The girl was not allowed to see him after he'd been turned, but the pair spoke through owls. Her parents had sent her to Beauxbaton's when they heard Remus was to attend Hogwarts, and the pair began to drift apart. Now however, he was embarking on an amazing new chapter with his fellow Marauders. And he was loving every second of it.
