Perhaps some would declare that Professor Riddle, the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, had only paired Bellatrix and James together for dueling practice because he was naïve to the dynamic of the duo, however, James was not such a gullible person. In fact, he was quite positive that newest faculty member understood exactly what he was instigating, and indeed yearned to observe the treachery unleashed by such a caustic partnership. If Riddle wanted a spectacle with disastrous outcomes, he would absolutely accomplish the feat with an assignment such as this. James continued to contemplate the matter, dragging his fingers across the coarse stone walls as he made his way to the agreed upon empty classroom on the 3rd floor. He had been behind schedule leaving the Gryffindor common room, and as such would arrive approximately 20 minutes late for their session. As a marauder, it was his sacred duty to exasperate Bellatrix Black in ever manner possible, his tardiness included as one of those annoyances. James doubted she would take notice, 'Bells' was more than likely in some corner snogging Maxwell, or perhaps even Riddle himself.
At last, James found himself located in front of the proper door, though it hardly looked as if anyone was present. He released and exaggerated sigh, ruffling his hair subconsciously before stepping through the entryway. Perhaps this could prove to be a bit of fun, anyhow. He did so enjoy to duel, and who better to augment his already impressive skill set with than with the arch-nemesis and beloved cousin of his best mate? Cocky and confident as he was, Potter was far from moronic. He refused to underestimate his opponent, even for a single fleeting moment. As much as he detested to admit such a favorable compliment, Bellatrix was a talented witch- and rumor had it she had been taking part of special tutoring with the one and only, Professor Riddle. Something unsettled James about the man, he had a shrouded history and a menacing glare- and yet, here he was. Headmaster Dumbledore must respect his abilities on some level. Then again, perhaps he was in the habit of 'keeping his friends close, and his enemies closer.' Regardless of his background, James could sense the pure power emanating from his presence. If he had truly been training Bellatrix, she would know formidable spells that James had yet to practice.
Though he knew such things as the Forbidden Curses were by no means to be utilized by any witch or wizard, James couldn't help but be curious. He desired to yield such magics, and control their undiagnosed potency. The potential for observing such spells was astronomical, now that he was partnered with the likes of Bellatrix. She was surely sworn to secrecy, if they had indeed been practicing such spells, but the Black sisters were known for their fury, if nothing else. If Bell's was pushed far enough, maybe she would retaliate in such a fashion? James could only quietly hope for a display to prove his inklings. 'And what could come of such observations, James? It's not as if you can, by law, practice such enchantments.' he whispered within the confines of his mind. A silent voice responded to he inquiry, 'Yet you are illegally an animagus, are you not? Come what may.' When the flutter of thought had subsided, he placed his signature smirk upon his lips and entered the designated classroom.
