[/b] She breathed to herself, trying to assure herself of the situation at hand.
It was over.
The engagement was called off - or at least, Bellatrix thought that it was for now. She had stood up to her father, told him what she really wanted and called the entire thing off. Merlin, she didn’t even care what he thought of her at this point. He could run off and tell the world that she was a disgrace to their family name, but in her eyes...she wouldn’t be a Black for that much longer anyway. Or at least - she looked down at the ring that she was rolling between her fingers - that was what she thought. What she was about to do was unorthodox to say the least. She bit down on her lip, trying not to let her smile falter as she thought about it. Bellatrix Black was about to ask Zeke Maxwell to marry her. After years of their playful back and forth and relationship that seemed utterly destructive, she could deny it no longer. She was in love with him. She had been from the start.
The words that Integra had spoken to her a few days ago as they had sat in the owlery seemed to be ringing in her head - perhaps it was possible for her to create some sort of semblance of a life with someone, wasn’t it? She bit down on her lip, having not realized how very nervous she was about this moment until she really thought about it.
Bells was sitting on Zeke’s bed in the Slytherin common room, staring at the wall, trying to build back up that confidence that she had once had. She needed momentum, she needed a fire under her arse. Slowly she looked left until she found herself staring into the mirror that was on Zeke’s vanity. Slowly she got to her feet and crossed the room, putting her hands on either side of the dresser and looking at her face in the mirror. She had tamed her hair, the black ringlet curls falling down her back, half pinned up on the side. Her green eyes were sparkling under make up - she had had one of the girls in the common room do it for her, considering that she never wore make-up. She reached up and touched her cheek, admiring the flawless blush that seemed to sit there. She looked feminine, she looked dainty...Bellatrix Black looked like a beautiful woman. For Merlin’s sake...she was wearing a dress! She looked down at the short black dress and then back up at her face.
”You’re ready.”
The door knob to the room gave a slight jiggle and Bells knew that this was it. He was about to walk into the room. Immediately, she slipped the ring into her palm, hiding it from view. She straightened the waist line of her dress, trying to get it to lay flat against her stomach. Honestly, she felt as if her palms were sweating and she was going to pass out. And then, the door opened all the way.
Bells saw him, looking slightly disheveled, but she didn’t care, ”Evening, Zeke.”[/b] She breathed into the air between them, smiling slightly.
