Lexus and Rita had been friends of a sort for quite some time now. An unlikely pair, the badger and the snake, but they had become rather symbiotic toward each other over the years. Both having a special knack for creating great stories about their classmates, they enjoyed occasionally doing so together. They would throw ideas around and formulate fictitious facts, which would then be spread around the school like wildfire of course. Or quite soon, it could simply be placed slyly into the folds of The Castle Courier where Lexus did not have to claim any of the responsibility.
As she sat staring at the dank walls of the Three Broomsticks she began to create her own story. It was the story of future Rita, who she often modeled after the well-known Raven Monroe of the Daily Prophet. The woman was a pro. She wanted so badly to become what she was and more: the gossiper grandeur, the best busybody, the Daily Prophet’s pro prattler. Of course, it was her ultimate goal to make it to the editor’s desk in the big office with a view. Midway through her daydreaming the bartender slid her butterbeer in front of her with a splash. “That’ll be two sickles las.”
“Oh, oh yes, two sickles, of course.” Rita said, slowly pulling herself out of her daze. Opening her purse, she grabbed twice the amount. “Oh, when my friend arrives, she’ll have one as well.” Rita continued. Pulling her blonde curls behind her shoulders, she leaned forward to sip the foam from the top of her stein. Rita could just imagine what Lexus’ friends thought of her, a simple-minded, dull Hufflepuff to them she supposed. It wasn’t something she cared to dwell on, however, since Lexus was not really known as someone who did was she was told, such as fall in step with her own housemates and oust the rest. What really mattered was that for some reason, the two clicked and Rita was fine with whatever that reason might be.
She had made sure to arrive to the bar a little early for drinks, allowing her to attempt to eavesdrop on any other nearby classmates. She always liked to get the creative ball rolling before she hit the starting line. When Lexus arrived, Rita was hoping to have the beginning of their new story laid out. It was hard to keep topping themselves though, considering their last tale was still trailing the corridors of the school. It was amazing what Hogwarts students would believe. Honestly, a secret entrance at the bottom of the Black Lake? Even if there was, how could you get to the top alive? Pathetic really.
