Sive walked through the dark and deserted corridors, feeling more relaxed and at peace than she had all day. Parents weekend was a pretty stressful time for her. Her parents were muggles, but even without that there had always been a divide between her and her family... more specifically her mother, and because of her, her sister.
Sive was never the perfect little girl her mother wanted and could relate to, and her father had always been reserved, staying out of the arguments. Her sister, Kate, had been that perfect girl, and once she'd come along their mother hadn't really needed Sive any more. She had always been different, and then she had found out she was a witch... well, that was kind of the last straw. Now there was such a huge divide between them, and her sister had started to buy into their mum's idea of Sive. Before, Kate had always been the special one. And then it turned out Sive had magic... Kate couldn't help but resent Sive for that. It wasn't her fault, it was how she was raised by their mum.
But all of that meant that Sive barely heard from her family at all while she was at Hogwarts, so them coming to parents weekend was completely out of the question. She got a letter about once a month, filled with small talk, never anything important, and she sent the same thing back. The extra business of parents weekend wasn't exactly something Sive welcomed. She was glad that it was now night, and that there was no one around.
She wasn't sure if she was allowed to be out or not; she hadn't been keeping an eye on the time. It was dark, and there was no one around, so she would probably get in trouble if she was caught. But Sive really didn't care, especially since she knew how to avoid getting caught. She liked to walk around at night. There was something peaceful about seeing places that were normally crowded so empty.
Sive trailed her fingertips along the stone walls as she walked. She moved leisurely but deliberately, like a lioness stalking her territory. Sive wasn't arrogant, but there was something slightly wild and powerful inside of her. She liked to be alone, where she could stretch out and be herself, without stepping on any toes, without anyone getting in her way. And she thought she could remain alone, until she heard footsteps somewhere up ahead.
