Zeke wasn’t concerned as he finished rounding the corner towards the kitchens; Filch didn’t come down here often, he spent the majority of his time on the ground floor and in the stairwells, it’s where he could catch the most students. It made life easy for the Slytherins when they needed a midnight snack, they could get over to the kitchens without any worries about Filch spoiling their fun.
Zeke opened the door to the kitchens and smiled at the house elves; despite being raised a pure-blood, Zeke had a fondness for the small creatures, they were so helpful and their only joy seemingly came from serving others. Two of them came rushing over to Zeke, trying to beat the other for the right to prepare him a meal. Zeke only knew the one’s name, so he figured he might as well acknowledge her and stop any potential violence that may ensue; “Good Evening Sydney.” he said politely, and watched as the other house elf hung it’s head in disappointment, he’d have to make sure to let him…or her…er… it serve him next time. “What can I prepare for you Master Maxwell?” Sydney asked anxiously. Zeke simply looked at the table that they still had prepared with the leftover food from last night’s dinner. “A roast duck sandwich with some fried potatoes would be fabulous Sydney.” Zeke looked over at the house elf who had lost and gave a friendly smile, “Could you perhaps get me a glass of pumpkin juice?” The house elf jumped into service with a broad smile that made Zeke feel slightly better about choosing Sydney.
It took the house elves no time at all before they sat a plate filled with fried potatoes and quite possibly the largest sandwich Zeke had ever seen. He smiled at the two of them and they quickly scurried off in the opposite direction as Zeke sat down at the table trying to reason with himself what exactly was going on in his head. For some reason he couldn’t get Darcy Collins off of his mind, but yet his heart ached every time that he saw Bellatrix Black; it just didn’t make sense to Zeke that he could possibly care about two different women at the same time.
He took a bite of the sandwich and chewed it slowly, still trying to figure out where his head exactly was; he’d never imagined that he could have feelings for a muggle, or that he would be in love with Bellatrix Black… let alone both of them at the same time! He shook his head and washed the bite down with a small sip of pumpkin juice. “Zeke Maxwell… what are you doing to yourself?” He whispered softly to himself.
