Rogan made his way down the corridor, he was grateful for his growth spurt because he was able to see over just about every student; which made navigating his way between classes much easier than it had been his first five years at Hogwarts. He watched as all the first year scurried around, he grabbed one of them who was obviously heading the wrong direction; “You’re heading to charms right? Professor O’Ryan’s class?” Rogan asked tapping his hand on their charms book. The boy simply nodded his head at Rogan who was nearly a foot taller than him, “You’re heading towards Potions with Slughorn. Charms is that way, if you cut across the transfiguration courtyard and run, you might make it before class starts.” Rogan offered the kid a smile and the kid smiled back and then scurried away. Rogan had a soft spot for first years, he remembered what it felt like being at Hogwarts for the first time; how easily you could get turned around and suddenly you’re sitting down in the 7th year transfiguration class with a bunch of Slytherins who want to see who can transfigure the gryffindor first year into a gecko.
Rogan could still see the first year running as he made it to the courtyard; Rogan guessed that he hadn’t taken the much shorter strides of the first year’s legs into account when he told him he wouldn’t be late. He wanted to make sure he would remember to apologize later to the first year, even though the route he had given him was much faster than any of the other routes. Rogan looked around and spotted an open spot underneath on of the trees, he evaluated the weather; it was unseasonably warm, in fact most of the students were running around without their jackets on. Rogan was wearing a long-sleeved maroon and gold striped thermal and was more than warm enough, especially after growing up in the northeast. He sat down under the tree leaning back against the trunk looking up through the bare branches at the couple of leaves that were still trying to hang on before falling to the ground. Rogan pulled out his Charms book and began reading the next chapter, he’d already finished his work for this week, and written three inches more than O’Ryan had asked for. He began skimming over his text book, reading about incantation-less charms; he figured he could get through this chapter before it was time for dinner.
