The room was white, as was everything in it. There was no door nor any window to be seen. He didn't know where he was and how he got there was fuzzy at best. He had been in the shrieking shack, fighting his father. What happened? The last thing he remembered was a burning in his arm. Reaching down he gripped the forearm his father had been marking.
"He completed it.... I'm sorry, you are marked now." A feminine voice caught his attention and he turned. A woman, dressed in a long white gown stood before him.
"Mum...." He managed to squeak out before racing for her only for the woman to back away.
"No Benji, you mustn't touch me, if you do, you'll not let go and you are not finished yet." She spoke calmly, a knowing look in her eye.
"I'm dead."
"No, not dead Benji, you are on the brink and still have time to turn back." She smiled softly and nodded toward him, " You have a gift son, one given to you by me all toughs years ago. It protected you, as it always will."
He blinked softly, "The explosions.... that was you?" He had always assumed it was a curse from his father, that he was a weapon, but he was wrong. In her final sacrifice Benji's mother bestowed on him the power to protect himself. An unspoken spell that activates when he needs it.
"Learn to control it, use it." The light begins to fade and she frowns, "We don't have much time my son, listen to me, You are destined for great things, keep fighting."
"Mum, no. We can't be out of time.... I need you!" His voice becomes frantic as her image begins to fade with the dimming light.
"I love you Benny-boy, my sweet child. You have the light inside you, never let it go"
"Mum! MUM!!!!" The light fades out and he is plunged into darkness, pain overtakes him and his mind goes blank.

It had been weeks. Weeks of darkness and loneliness, of uncertainty and fear. He couldn't move, he couldn't see and the worst part about it was that he knew she was there and couldn't comfort her. His body ached from head to toe and was now riddled with scars where all his skin had regrown and formed over the burnt flesh.
Benjamin Myers was a lucky man. He had survived what most people would have called a guaranteed death. Benji literally exploded from the inside. By all intents and purposes he should have died, and part of him wished he had. But the part of him that didn't was stronger and he very slowly began to heal. He wasn't doing it for himself, he was doing it for her. The girl that sat beside his bed everyday after class, who read to him, told him about missed work and yes, cried for him on a daily basis. Integra Echoes was a changed person, and he wasn't about to abandon her. He swore to protect her and Benji never went back on a swear. It was her voice that kept him from leaving, her touch that reminded him that he was still alive. Although he couldn't move or speak, he could hear, and feel and she was always there to pull him closer and closer to consciousness.
Opening his eyes lightly Benji's fingers twitched. He scanned to room that was far too bright for his liking. A table of potions and tonics sat beside him on his left. rounding his eyes to look out front he can see his parts of his body still bandaged and healing. Finally he looks left and takes a breath as he sees the girl he returned for. "I...Integra...."
