2 April 1977
Marlene didn’t own a checkered blanket. Honestly, She thought, Who owned a checkered blanket besides movie characters? Instead, she had brought a throw that was usually resting on one of the couches in the Gryffindor Common room. Kleptomaniac or not, taking unused things from the Common Room had become her forte over the past six years. No one missed them and she usually ended up returning them; except for a few. Sirius’ jumper was throw on top of her t-shirt, shielding her from the cold of the night, as she walked through the darkened grounds. Midnight had hit a few minutes ago, but Mars wasn’t one for being on time. Instead, being fashionably late seemed to be the only form of fashion that she actually cared about.
Siri wasn’t at the Pitch yet, so Mars made herself comfortable in the middle, sitting on the blanket and periodically looking around to see if she had been joined yet. Her hands wouldn’t sit still - they picked and prodded at the edge of the blanket, fraying the edges of the fabric with her anxious fingertips. Where was he? Was he even showing up? Mars chewed on her bottom lip, bright eyes scanning the horizon of the grassy pitch. Maybe he had decided that it wasn’t worth it - especially not if his girlfriend Monika found out. About a week had passed since they had finally ran into one another again and things seemed to have calmed back down to their normal, run-of-the-mill Sirius and Marlene interactions. Apart from the fact that they had basically only said hello and exchanged witty pleasantries a few times when they had run into each other in the common room. Marley sighed to herself - were they ever going to right this?
Lying back, she looked up at the stars. They were pretty, she supposed, but she wasn’t really one for star gazing. She paid little attention in Astronomy, like most of her classes, and couldn’t recite the first thing about the stars and their paths. Except for maybe the North Star was the bright one right in the center of the sky. And Sirius. Sirius was a star. She remembered when the Astronomy Professor had gone on about the ‘Dog Star’ student for a couple of classes. She had never quite let him live down his celestial naming.
She heard something on her left and she sat upwards with a pointed intensity. Her eyes were on the person in a matter of seconds and she recognized the mop of hair and walk almost instantaneous. Sirius. So he had showed up after all. The prickle of the smile on her lips surprised her - but slowly she felt it spreading to the edges of her mouth and brightening her face, “I had just about given up on you-” She called putting her arms around her knees as she rocked back and forth to keep her skin from getting too chilly in the night air. Her eyes met his as she drew her hands out, gesturing to her position on the blanket, “It’s no five-star checkered picnic blanket but I think that-“ Her voice trailed off somewhere when she realized that Sirius wasn’t in as high spirits as she was.TAG; Sirius Orion BlackNOTES; a blackinnon mix i’m throughly enjoying XD let me know if you’d like anything changed!
