“Students, Students!” Magnolia pushed her way to the front of the gathering crowd outside the Astronomy Classroom. Instead of the proper Wizarding Professorial robes, she had chosen a floral dress and a pair of tame heels. It wasn’t an outfit of a Professor, nor was it an outfit of a typical Hogwarts student. It would do fine to distinguish her as the new Astronomy teacher, “If you would be so kind to excuse me, I-” She finally reached the front where she offered a light smile to the students who were piled up nearly on top of her.
She raised her wand and the lock of the classroom clicked open. Mags pulled it open as they all began moving forward like dutiful soldiers on a march, “Heavens.” She pushed the door open with her foot and allowed the rest of them to file into the open classroom. They all pushed past her, leaving her feeling nearly breathless...or at least, as breathless as a being who did not require breath could feel. At least they’re enthused about their education, she thought, although the smile on her face never for a moment wavered. There were a few that she recognized from the couple of days before she had started lessons - a few that she had run into. When they were all inside, Mags moved into the room and shut the door behind her. Her heels clicked against the floor until she reached the front.
There she stood for a few moments until her own voice surprised her as it passed from her lips, “As many of you are undoubtedly aware, your previous Astronomy Professor has been taken ill with a severe case of Dragon Pox. You need not worry, he is expected to make a full recovery within a few months time-” She blinked twice, in a quick progression as she pushed some of her dark hair away from her face, “But until then, Dumbeldore has asked me to instruct you.” She leaned further against the desk as she crossed her feet at her ankles, “My name is Magnolia Dupree and I studied at the Salem Institute. Astronomy has always been my favorite subject and I firmly believe that Neil Armstrong and his crew was not a hoax put on by the American Government-” She paused, waiting for some sort of laughter, until she realized that she wasn’t in America any longer...she was smack-dab in the middle of Scotland teaching a bunch of Brits.
She coughed delicately, “Any questions you have for me, feel free to ask at the end of the period. I will leave about five minutes for idle conversation for that purpose. Right, Astronomy. A two part class - lectures and classwork during the day and then every other Wednesday we will meet here at the Tower for some field work at midnight. Studying the stars first hand, star charts, planet movement charting.” She was checking to make sure that she had all of her information correct before continuing, “I’ve read through your previous professor’s notes and syllabus and we’ll just pick up where we left off. Today’s lesson will be largely focused on the Polaris and-” Mags felt her back straighten ever so slightly as she leaned against the desk, trying to find the delicate balance. Her eyes scanned the lot of students that sat in front of her and she sucked in a breath. This was so new, was she even doing it right? “Who can tell me the common name for Polaris?” Her dark eyes moved across the bodies in the room - identifying each by their house and observing the way that they looked at her, as if they were trying to figure out just what kind of Professor she was.TAG; 6th & 7th YearsNOTES; first astronomy lesson with mags. if everyone could please use different font colors and put them in your notes for reply puroses, that would be lovely! magnolia = CRIMSON.
