The castle was quiet and dark. Her bare feet pattered on the cold stone floor like soft raindrops. The cool night air was refreshing on her bare skin. Opening the door, she peered inside. It was late and she didn't expect anyone to be awake. Upon seeing that the Prefect's Bathroom was empty, she tiptoed inside and closed the door behind her. Her cauldron clanged loudly as she dropped it on the floor. As soon as the echo ended, she proceeded to do her potion. The potion was due two days ago and it would take 5 hours to brew and another hour to cool. If she finished it tonight, she could salvage what she had left of the assignment and come out with a passing grade for it.
The potion was easy to make, it was the waiting that was bad. She sat cross legged as she watched the cauldron bubble into what looked like purple water. The potion should thicken and within 5 hours, she should have a gooey purple potion. She looked at her watch, midnight. The smell of the potion was becoming stronger. The Prefects Bathroom had good ventilation and soon the strong stench dissipated and left only a tinge of what smelled like ginger and burnt rubber.
Laying back on the floor, she put her hands behind her head and looked up at the ceiling. She would have to see her father this weekend. It wasn't something she was looking forward to. He'd been breathing down her neck about practicing DADA and mastering all his spells so she could have a head start in becoming an Auror. But it was all too much for Eileen. She hardly had any time for anything else besides from training, studying, and classes.
Her mind began to wander and soon she slipped into a comfortable state of unconsciousness. Her dreams floated in like a thick fog that enveloped her mind and her body. She dreamed she was in a fog, then she realized it wasn't a fog at all, it was smoke. The smell of something burning caught her attention and there was fire around her. Eileen panicked before realizing she must be in a dream. She screamed and pinched herself, willing herself to wake up.
A burning sensation filled her throat as she started to cough. Her eyes opened and she saw the room was filled with smoke, her cauldron on fire. She looked around, unable to think. "Help!" she screamed but as soon as she did, she swallowed smoke.
