When they had told her that her Seventh year was going to be difficult, she wasn’t entirely sure if she believed them. It had only been now that she was actually almost done with it that she realized how busy she had actually been. Annabel wasn’t sure where she had found the time to breathe, let alone do anything else. She felt like she was a horrible person, particularly because she spent most of her time at Hogwarts – including over the breaks – and didn’t head home. Merlin knew what that was doing to poor Linden. He was stuck with their parents all by himself. Even now, she shuddered to think about how horrible it had been for him. Luckily, his darling sister hadn’t intended not to have any alone time with him. She was also of age which meant that she could apparate to meet up with him and let him know that she missed him. For as long as she could remember, her brother had always been there for her. Not only had he been one of her best friends, but he had also been a guardian when her parents failed her.
Bless them, but they’d done a miserable job of raising her. Anna shuddered to think how she might have turned out if it hadn’t been for the eldest Ollivander. The youngest one had grown up. Or, at least, she liked to think that she had. Gone were the days she spent trailing after him like some sort of hungry child who had spotted some sweet. Somewhere, the somewhat shy little redhead had grown into this independent teenager who dictated her life according to what she wanted and what she dreamed. Her family was free to do whatever they wanted so long as the allowed her the same luxury. And, all those years of sneaking out into Hogsmeade seemed to work in her favor – particularly because it allowed her to apparate to Diagon Alley where she could, hopefully, catch up with her wonderful older brother. Annabel felt as if they had barely corresponded at all over these last couple of months. They had both been busy, but she missed him. And, she had a nagging feeling – that was probably hope – that he missed her, too.
So, it went without saying that she was unhappy at the thought of being unable to communicate effectively with her older brother. That she hadn’t had the time to give to him, or vice versa, was completely unacceptable. She was more than a little put out that she had, almost shamefully, forgotten about her blue eyed older brother in favor of a Transfiguration essay or a Charms test. It what that guilt that led her to reach Hogsmeade far earlier than she had actually intended. She had just been finishing an assignment for Potions when she realized that all she had written was, ‘I’m a horrid sister. I’m a horrid sister. I’m a horrid sister.’ on the last couple of inches on her parchment. It effectively ruined what had been a nice summary of how she had gotten her potion to turn out alright when she had done half of the steps backwards. It also made her realize that she needed to slide on her trainers as well as more casual clothing in comparison to the uniform she had been wearing before leaving Hogwarts at a quick, and hopefully undetected, pace.
She hadn’t even been a hundred percent sure that her owl had gotten to him that morning. And, for some reason, Anna found that she didn’t really care. When she had closed her eyes and felt the familiar pull, she found that she didn’t mind much if she waited a while for Linden to finish whatever it was that he was doing. After all, it had been mostly her fault that they hadn’t spoken too much.
