For the past few weeks, her encounter with Katrina Langly in the library was all Narcissa could think about. There were several things that had both intrigued her and and angered her all in one sitting. No one had ever been able to do that to her before now. What bugged her was that she had had the upper hand. She had the power, the control, and she thought she had won...She was oh so very wrong. Cissa hadn't counted on her whispered comment to spurn Kat's response, nor had she expected the other girl to slip in a last comment before walking away. There had been a few audible gasps from onlookers at the somewhat stunned expression Narcissa had been left with.
In more than one way, it had sparked a greater interest in the Gryffindor for Cissa. This girl was a new challenge, and though she wasn't sure how things would turn out--or even if they would spark at all--Cissa found herself unable to stop the train in motion. Quite honestly, she didn't know what she felt at this moment in time, or on any given area of her life. Emotions, feelings, life...it was all just too jumbled at this point so Cissa simply shut everything out. It may not be the most perfect way to live, but it kept her from hurtling herself into the Whomping Willow on more than one occasion.
Cissa turned the corner of one of the first floor corridors, her school bag in one arm as she left her Transfiguration class. Fifth year Slytherin and Hufflepuff students were partnered for that particular lesson, and Cissa had to bite the inside of her cheek from jinxing a few of the other house students. There was always house prejudice, especially between Slytherin and the rest of Hogwarts, but Cissa found Hufflepuff students to be particularly annoying. They were always so cheery and upbeat, always sickeningly perky and somewhat dimwitted. They were pushovers, and nearly every other student would most likely agree, whether they were in Slytherin, Ravenclaw or Gryffindor. Needless to say when the class had ended, Narcissa had made a beeline for the door, then taken the back way towards the Great Hall to avoid having to talk to anyone.
She was passing what she assumed was an empty History of Magic classroom when a rather hateful voice caught her attention. It wasn't so much the tone of the voice than the words it was saying. When 'queer' reached her ears and Cissa had turned her head to look into the classroom, she could feel her cheeks flushing in anger. There, towards the back of the empty classroom, stood a Slytherin boy, his wand pointed menacingly towards none other than Katrina Langly as his mouth continued to spew slurs. Cissa wasn't sure what had her so angry, nor why she felt so suddenly protective of Langly, but she instinctively pulled her wand from her pocket and pointed it at the Slytherin boy.
"Oppugno!" Narcissa shouted with great force, pointing towards a stack of old parchments, which instantly seemed to come to life and attack the boy harassing Kat. The lad took off, screaming in pain as the paper cuts mounted up. When he had gone, his screams and the fluttering of parchment only faint calls from down the hall, Narcissa turned back towards Kat.
"Are you okay?" Well, now, this was awkward. Cissa couldn't pinpoint exactly why she had felt the need to come to Kat's rescue, nor why she had felt so strongly about her getting picked on either. She had simply reacted, and now knowing Kat was out of harms way made her feel oddly relieved. What was happening?!
