Zeke slowly opened the ending to the passageway that lead into the castle of Hogwarts; he gave two quick glances to the left and right and stepped out onto the hard tile floor. Zeke had used that passageway many times to sneak out of Hogwarts during his seven years as a student, but this was the first time that he had ever used it to break IN to the school. He was a little disappointed at the lack of security that Dumbledore had put up for the students of Hogwarts; for a man that always preached about how important the students were to him, he sure didn’t take much time to protect them, now did he?
Zeke quickly made his way down to the dungeons and without any hesitation the Slytherin Common Room was opened for him; Zeke smiled behind his silver mask at just how easy this had actually been. He took three quick strides behind the couch on which a couple was snogging and without so much as a second glance was in the female hallway. He had been given a report on all of the student followers that had already been marked and the first name that had jumped out at him was Integra Echoes. He had known Integra while he was a student, they had enjoyed a small fling; even enjoying the thought process of getting betrothed to one another. However, that was long ago in Zeke’s past; it was history, ancient history, and Zeke needed to ensure that it stayed that way. Regardless, she had never seemed the type to receive her mark; so seeing her name had been an immediate red flag in his mind. The Dark Lord had explained to Zeke that she had been forced by her Father, but she showed no signs of rejecting her mark, none-the-less Zeke should keep an eye on her to ensure that she would not betray them.
Zeke made short work of the lock; it took a simple flick of his wrist for the door to spring open. He quickly shut it behind him, ensuring the utmost silence as he locked it once again. He glanced at the time, it was a quarter past three; knowing that her last class ended at four and was on the fourth floor, he figured he would have at least an hour before she would be back to her room. It was plenty of time for Zeke to inspect the room and look for any signs of defection. He quickly riffled through the trunk at the end of bed, finding nothing more than a couple of old robes and scrolls; he did however find a couple of pieces of nightwear that made his flash flush under his silver mask. His mind briefly pictured her wearing them and he softly muttered “Lucky man, whoever he is…”
Zeke took care to place everything back into its original spot, folding the robes and nightwear carefully before he moved onto the closet; once again, he came up empty. He found some letters from Rabastan LeStrange in her nightstand, glancing quickly he was able to confirm that they were actually from Rabastan, so he knew that they would be clear; he decided to respect her privacy somewhat and placed them back into the nightstand without going through all of them. Zeke finally moved over to the dresser, he noticed the pictures that were lined up on the top of it; smiling faces, laughing, dancing, all sorts of happy emotions stared back at Zeke, but there was only one face that stood out to Zeke, it was the face that had haunted his dreams for the past several months, a face that he hadn’t seem in close to a year…
It was his face…and he was… smiling.
The picture of Zeke and Integra laughing kept replaying but it didn’t need to, Zeke remembered that day even clearer than the picture could display it. Zeke had just been selected as Captain of the Quidditch team at the end of his fifth year, it had been a pretty obvious choice but it had still put Zeke on top of the world. Zeke and Integra weren’t together at the time, in fact, he was pretty sure that was when she had been with Rabastan and Zeke had been in the middle of his fling with Bellatrix. Both of their significant others had been away that weekend however, probably at some LeStrange family ball, no doubt; So Zeke had celebrated with Integra, the memory was painfully vibrant in his head, the smell of the grassy pitch, the sunshine on his skin, the taste of the warm fire whiskey that he had smuggled in…
…the taste of cherry on her lips.
It was the night of his and Integra’s first kiss. Zeke picked the picture up, staring at it, unsure as to why she had held onto this picture, and even more so… why would she display it so prominently? Time must have gotten away from him as he heard the clamoring of the lock on the door, his head snapped towards the door, and instead of placing the picture back down on the dresser, he quickly slipped it into the pocket of his robe, and clasped both hands behind his back as Integra walked into her room. “Good Afternoon, Ms. Echoes; I’ve been waiting for you.”
