Professor Ellis stood just a few feet away from the door to the Great Hall. He'd been standing there for a few minutes, just leaning with his back against the wall, one foot propped up and both arms crossed. Face half covered in a mask, no one could tell it was him. Or at least he liked to think so. He even shaved his face clean for the event. From time to time a few girls would walk by in a group and giggle as they would walk by him. Gerard always shook his head slightly before looking away, it seemed he could pass as a teenager- with a mask at least. However, it was possible for others to recognize him by his suit. All he wore were suits under his robes. He was the most muggle dressed professor in the entire school.
How he got chosen as one of the chaperone for the ball, he didn't know. Apparently, it was some vote that he didn't know about. He didn't plan on going to the ball, but as it became a mandatory for only two hours ago, he thought he should go ahead and use the mystery mask he found in his drawer. He still had no idea who left it in his desk, perhaps his gifter will make herself (or himself) known tonight. Most of the students had already filed in the Great Hall though there were a few stragglers and just some others hanging out and about outside in the hall. He looked down at his cufflinks, they were the ones that his wife bought him for Christmas before she died only a few days later. They were gold with red domes and if one looked closer, they'd see a letter "E" engraved inside the dome.
As a male and female student walked past him whispering and headed towards the doors, he pushed himself off the wall and cleared his throat to get their attention. Their confused faces soon turned to embarrassment when he lifted his mask and pointed back towards the door to the Great Hall.
"Honestly, the ball has barely just begun, wait until later will you?" he said shaking his head and pulling his mask back down as the students made their way back to the Great Hall with their heads down. "And you could use with some discreetness."
