Cover up was her new best friend. Cover up and the mask her parents had sent her for this ball. Weeks ago Alice had realized she had no date for the dance. Kasch had moved away and wasn't returning. They'd split their ways and Alice hadn't heard a peep from him since. She was alone on Valentine's Day. The thought had initially been very sad for her. She had even contemplated not going. Upon picking up the parcel with her mask, Alice brought up her dilemma to her new friend, Rabastan, he had answered her with a simple "I'll go with you." It hadn't occurred to her that he might be going. With his expulsion and his hasty removal from the castle, Alice wasn't certain he even wanted to go. And maybe he didn't, but he was going for her, and Alice appreciated that immensely.
She'd only hoped now that her outfit looked perfectly right. She had to be perfect because there was a knot in the pit of her stomach for the first time all year. It was a nervous feeling, and she was happy to have it again. Alice Hallows had a date with Rabastan Lestrange, and she was actually excited. Once her hair and dress were perfect and her mask had been placed precariously on her cheek bones, Alice headed into the common room. She passed Remus Lupin on the way out the door who smiled very sweetly at her, "You look stunning, Alice." Her lips cracked into a smile as she waved to him, "Remmy you aren't supposed to know it's me." With a giggle, she hurried down the stairs to the Great Hall.
There he was. Standing at the entrance to the Great Hall was the tall, long haired boy who most recently made her heart patter. Saying nothing, but smiling brightly at him, she took his arm and pushed open the large double doors leading into what was now a grand ball room covered in lights and flowers. There was already music playing and people dancing. Alice swallowed and looked up at Rabastan with a nervous yet sweet smile. "Thank you, Rabastan..."
