She gave him one last smile before he closed the door behind him. It was all she could do to prevent that lump in her throat to release and turn her into a waterfall of emotion. When she heard his footsteps go into the next room, she looked at the wall that separated them. Eileen listened, not moving, to what was going on until all was silent. She didn't know how long she stood at that spot. But when she finally moved, she realized how tired she was. Emotions were something she wasn't good with and she barely had to deal with. The amount of weight it put on her shoulders and mind tired her.
Eileen pulled off her jeans and didn't bother to put on her pajamas for how tired she was. Plopping on the bed with just her shirt and undergarments, she pulled the cover over her. It seemed as if sleep took hold of her instantly but there were some times in the night when she'd wake up with tears in her eyes. Was she having bad dreams or had she been awake the entire time?
The morning would come soon and she'd see him again. But she didn't want to think about that just, yet. She felt as if she was half asleep and half awake the entire night. The presence of the wall between them willed her attention every time she awoke.
Eileen woke up one more time. She didn't know what time it was, but she figured it was probably just before dawn. The fire had long died and the room was so cold she felt chilled to the bone. Not even the blankets could keep her warm. She looked at the wall again, it taunted her. For a few minutes, she seriously contemplated on just leaving for the castle. Maybe she'd leave him a note. But she couldn't bring herself to do it. Not even when she'd already gotten dressed and had her things packed. Not even when she had walked down the stairs and her hand was on the doorknob.
Eileen dropped her bag on the floor by the door and laid herself on the couch, waiting for the sun to rise.
