For a moment he thought he had gotten through to her, just for a second in time. Maybe it was the look in her eyes, or the way she neglected to snap back at him, but for what ever the reason, Benji really thought he had gotten though to her with his words. Then she spoke... and all hope went out the window again. Why could she see that things could be different? Why did everything have to be so complicated? He could tell she was listening to him, but part of him had to wonder if she was really hearing his words, or just working to come up with another excuse as to why he was wrong. "That's just it, we /were/ , past tense. Just because it was the way we were taught, doesn't mean it is the way things have to be forever."
He wished he could know what was going on in her head. Then maybe he would know what to say, or do, or even try to help her understand. But he couldn't see what was in her head, he had no idea what she was thinking. All he had was the look she was giving, the emotion in her eyes and tiredness in her face. It was clear that the two were rather similar. Both fighting to stay afloat in a world that seemed content to drown them. Benji took a deep breath. This was the most civil conversation he had managed to have with the girl, and he wasn't about to let his own anger or frustration destroy what little progress the two had managed to make in understanding the other. " Things change, little things, big things.... Hell, the sand dunes in Egypt change location daily. If something as big at a dune can change, than people can to."
Her hands came up between then and for a split second he though she might push him away, but she didn't. No, she just Stood there, deep in though. What was she...? Then it hit him, she was stopped by something, a barrier. She was telling him that there was a barrier, something stopping her from breaking free. He almost put his hands up to match hers, wanting to show her that he understood. He now knew there was a barrier, all he needed to do now was break it.... but how? The tears in her eyes made his heart ache. He hated to see women cry. It reminded him of his mother. Though, Integra in general was beginning to remind him of his mother. Women trapped by blood and hate, fighting to get free and prove that the world could be different. Lisa had managed to get away, well, almost, and Benji was bound, bent and determined to get Integra out, out without death.
A frown made its way to his face as her hands returned to her sides. Had she given up? No, she wasn't allowed to give up. Then she spoke, barely a whisper and he couldn't make it out. But the sob, that came though enough to pull him closer. Taking a step forward, he passed though the wall that Integra had shown. Benji placed a singe hand on the girls arm. He knew this motion would make or break his efforts. The touch was soft, there to be a comfort. His bright eyes searched for hers, trying to she her the light they held. She was a girl trapped in darkness, with no way to cast a light bright enough to get out. But he had enough, not only for himself, but for her, and anyone else who was willing to reach out for it.
Watching the girl he found himself conflicted. His brain told him he was pushing boundaries, and part of it worried that she would hex him for making contact, but his heart was giving him completely different signals. His heart wanted to engulf the girl, wrap her in the safely of a hug and pull her into a light. Between the two arguing, Benji just stood in silence, unmoving.
