The wind that blew around the ice covered waters of the black lake made a wicked enemy in the poor sun. Choked out by the thick and whirling snow, it took everything the large star had to power through the clouds that pocked the sky. The world might as well have been a whitewashed canvas at this point though, for between those terrible clouds and the roughly blowing snow no colour could be seen from any direction. Even the monsterous castle, with it's sharp parapets the jutted into the sky like teeth showed no shadow from down by the lake. The world was an icy inhabitable wasteland that any student, dumb enough to go outside in such a storm, would easily get lost.
It was a good thing Jesse thought he knew where he was going, then.
Where others may have brightly stayed indoors and spent the chilly day around a warm fire with a cup of coco, Jesse Boye had stubbornly decided that no storm was going to keep him in doors, and that he was in fact going to make the most of the day. Wrapped up like a child from the arctic, Jesse had stumbled out into the knee high snow and, once he was quite sure no one was looking, frolicked to the lake side to roll about a bit. His long black jacket and knee high boots made a lovely pair for keeping snow from getting in his pant legs, and his red knit hat, scarf and mitts made sure that not an inch of him beyond his eyes were going to have to face the frigid air. The extra layers under it all helped insulate him, but gave him the movements of a lead balloon bouncing over the powdered floor.
The boy bobbed his way to the water's edge, flopping down in a puff of snow and giggles. He rolled about for a bit, making snow angels and practicing other ways in which one could disturb fresh powder. There was nothing quite like being the first one to crack the freshly fallen snow. The rush of pride, knowing you'd claimed that little but of turf, it had always been a guilty pleasure of Jess's. Down in the throws of snow, the boy took a minute to light up a cigarette and relish in the moment. Watch the blizzard like weather blow about above him gave him a disconnected feeling, for down, hiding in two feet of snow, there was no wind, and no noise. It was peaceful.
Jesse gave a happy sigh, and blew smoke rings up into the air above him, enjoying how slowly they traveled till the reached the edge of his solitude and were sucked away by the bellowing winds. he wondered how long he'd have to stay there before he was completely covered by falling snow. He wondered if he wouldn't be found till summer. He wondered if this was what it was like to sleep in an igloo.
He wondered, and he giggled, blowing smoke rings in the air.
