Hawthorn ;

The wandmaker Gregorovitch wrote that hawthorn ‘makes a strange, contradictory wand, as full of paradoxes as the tree that gave it birth, whose leaves and blossoms heal, and yet whose cut branches smell of death.’ While I disagree with many of Gregorovitch’s conclusions, we concur about hawthorn wands, which are complex and intriguing in their natures, just like the owners who best suit them. Hawthorn wands may be particularly suited to healing magic, but they are also adept at curses, and I have generally observed that the hawthorn wand seems most at home with a conflicted nature, or with a witch or wizard passing through a period of turmoil. Hawthorn is not easy to master, however, and I would only ever consider placing a hawthorn wand in the hands of a witch or wizard of proven talent, or the consequences might be dangerous. Hawthorn wands have a notable peculiarity: their spells can, when badly handled, backfire.

Dragon Heartstring ; 

As a rule, dragon heartstrings produce wands with the most power, and which are capable of the most flamboyant spells. Dragon wands tend to learn more quickly than other types. While they can change allegiance if won from their original master, they always bond strongly with the current owner. The dragon wand tends to be easiest to turn to the Dark Arts, though it will not incline that way of its own accord. It is also the most prone of the three cores to accidents, being somewhat temperamental.

( LIKES ) : 

1. The Dark Arts; Alecto has always been fascinated with the Dark Arts, and has been from a young age. Luckily for her, she grew up in an environment where that interest was easily fed. Books and artefacts exploring the darkest, most twisted aspects of black magic were readily available to her. Nothing was ever censored, no one cared enough to monitor Alecto's reading.
2. Pain; Alecto enjoys seeing others in pain and causing pain. When she was a child she would threaten the other children she played with, and devised games with severe 'punishments', often sending her playmates home with unexplained cuts, burns and bruises. Sometimes Alecto thinks she'd enjoy someone causing her pain, but the majority of the time she is too proud and controlling to allow that.
3. Control; As a child, Alecto was always the one coming up with the games, deciding what everyone would do, telling other children what to do. She was always the boss of her twin brother, Amycus, and always got her way. Alecto likes situations where she is in control.
4. Chaos; Alecto feeds off chaos and anarchy. She loves fights and situations were emotions are running high and out of control. She drinks in other peoples distress, anger, passion, and fury. Often passively observing and being 'in' it all is enough, but Alecto also enjoys driving people to lose control, and manipulating the chaos.
5. Sex; Alecto enjoys sex, and is a very sexual, sensual person. As far as she can remember, she always has been, even before she really understood what it meant. She enjoys her body and what it can do. Alecto likes to take the role of the predator. She likes when things get rough, and sometimes likes when pain is involved.

( DISLIKES ) : 

1. Hard Work; Alecto is largely unmotivated, and dislikes hard work. She knows that if something is hard then she may not be able to accomplish it, putting the outcome outside of her control. She hates the idea of trying hard, and failing. Besides which, the hard work itself is boring and unappealing to Alecto. 
2. Muggles and Mudbloods; Alecto was raised to believe in blood purity, and believes that muggles are filth, less than animals. She truly believes that muggles have forced witches and wizards into hiding with their barbarity, and that witches and wizards should (and will) return to their rightful place above them. She doesn't believe that muggleborns should be allowed at Hogwarts, or even allowed a wand.
3. Not Getting Her Way; Alecto likes it when people do as she says, and goes into a fury when someone denies her. When Alecto doesn't get her way, she makes sure there is hell to pay. In the end she always get what she wants.
4. Sexism; Alecto will sometimes be dismissed because she is a girl. People will sometimes assume that Amycus is the dominant twin, because he's the boy. Their father see's Amycus as the Carrow heir, because he is male, despite being no older than Alecto. In reality, Alecto is control, she is the one with the power, she is vicious and ruthless and she always wins, and she wants people to see that.
5. Losing Face; Alecto is very prideful, and hates to lose face or be humiliated in any way. She never forgets when someone humiliates her, and always makes them pay, eventually.

( STRENGTHS ) : 

1. Intelligence; Alecto is very intelligent, and always has her wits about her. Not a lot gets past Alecto. Unfortunately, she doesn't channel her intelligence into her school work; with the exception of the Dark Arts, Alecto is uninterested in academics. Instead she uses her intelligence to manipulate and get her way, and to make sure no one manipulates her in turn. 
2. Aggression; Alecto is aggressive, and while this may not necessarily always be a 'strength', she considers it as such when she beats someone down and into submission. Sometimes Alecto is overly aggressive for the situation, turning things physical when they otherwise wouldn't have been.
3. Passion; Also not always a strength, at least not in the way Alecto operates, she is very passionate. She can really feel things, and experiences depth of emotion that others often don't. If she ever allowed herself, Alecto could love fiercely and powerfully. 
4. Steadfast; Alecto is not easily swayed from her beliefs. She stands fast to what she thinks is right and wrong, and doesn't let others twist her to their way of thinking. She is neither exceptionally open or closed minded, but she is far from suggestible. No one tells her what to think.
5. Astute; Alecto is not at all naive. She has the ability to accurately assess situations and people, and turn this to her advantage. She is very shrewd, and can see things clearly. She doesn't view the world through rose tinted glasses, and doesn't buy what others are selling. If something seems to be too good to be true, it is. Alecto is not easily sucked in. 

( WEAKNESSES ) : 

1. Impulsiveness; Alecto cannot resist temptation, or deny herself anything. She is often impulsive, and while she doesn't act wholly without considering consequences or outcomes, she has been known to be reckless and throw herself into volatile situations (and love it).
2. Whiny; sometimes Alecto whines and complains, usually when a situation cannot be changed and there is nothing to be done. She doesn't like this about herself, and often gets put in her place when she whines, but she can't help it.
3. Temper; When someone denies Alecto something she wants, she flies into a fury, losing all composure and control. She is terrible when angered, and is capable of terrible things. As a passionate person, Alecto's temper can often be short, and her anger can be close to the surface. Those who experience her wrath don't soon forget it.
4. Her brother; Alecto has never been able to help her attraction towards her brother. She knows enough to keep it a secret from everyone but him, but doesn't see it as wrong the way others would; its what she wants. She wants Amycus, and wants to keep him to herself. In her day to day life, he (and the fact that she can't always have him) his her biggest weakness. 
5. Manners; Alecto was raised by a prominent pureblood family, so of course she was taught how to behave. However, she often isn't very polite, and doesn't concern herself with being likeable as much as she should. She doesn't often subscribe to the idea that you 'catch more flies with honey than with vinegar'. She knows how to manipulate people, and can be very charming when she wants to be, but she doesn't naturally endear herself to people.

The most obvious and first noticed aspect of Alecto's personality is that she is very controlling, and likes to be in control. She is domineering, and enjoys being in charge. Although manipulating others isn't necessary to make her happy, she's more than willing to do so if it means getting what she wants. Alecto is not loud or obnoxious, but neither is she in any way a wall flower. She doesn't crave attention, but sometimes attention helps her to get her way. Alecto is aggressive, and can sometimes be violent. This trait has been becoming more and more pronounced as she gets older.

Alecto has strong sadistic tendencies, and, occasionally, masochistic. She likes to see pain, and often finds it hard to conceal her pleasure and delight at seeing someone in pain. She is cruel, and vicious, and she's caring less and less if anyone sees it. Alecto doesn't believe in love (though, if she could admit it to herself, she may be in love with Amycus). Trust is more important to her than love, but in her eyes neither exist. Loyalty is more useful to her than affection. 

Despite this, Amycus' affections are a huge weakness for her. What she really wants is for Amycus to want her back, and if he is so inclined, and with a bit of a fight, he can wrap Alecto around his little finger. Alecto often has very dark thoughts, and is fascinated by the most disturbing aspects of the Dark Arts. She found a way to sneak into the restricted section of the library in her fourth year, and ever since the only books she'll read are ones found there. She finds a sick pleasure in the twisted and demented.

( HISTORY ) :

Alecto and her twin brother were born into a notable pureblood family. Like many pureblood families, they had money and status. Alecto was raised to believe in blood purity, and that, as a pureblood, she was better than those with 'dirty blood'. She was taught that to be a witch and a pureblood was the best possible thing to be, and that muggles were less than animals. The Carrows believed that witches and wizards would one day take their rightful place above muggles, and those with their blood. They weren't alone in this thinking. The Carrows were on a list known as the 'Sacred Twenty-Eight', a list made years ago of the 'truly' pureblood families. Among these families, talk of blood purity and the abolishment of muggleborns was common. 

From a young age, Alecto asserted her dominance over her brother, and her peers. She also revealed herself to be a vicious and sadistic child. She would devise games which involved harsh and painful punishments, and clearly enjoyed being the instigator in anything she and her playmates got up to. When Alecto became old enough to read and be educated, it was clear that her interests lay in the Dark Arts. The only books she would thoroughly read were those on the Dark Arts, the darker the better. Alecto's parents didn't care much for policing their children, and so what Alecto read went largely unmonitored. She read a lot that was extremely unsuitable and disturbing for a child her age, and what affect that had on her isn't really known. But Alecto devoured the most disturbing texts, and her thoughts got very dark indeed. 

Alecto first felt attraction towards her twin brother when she was twelve. At the time she wasn't sure what she was feeling, but it didn't take her long to figure it out. When they were thirteen, Alecto made Amycus kiss her. He resisted, but she made him; Alecto was in charge, and they both knew that. When he refused, she threatened to tell his secrets to everyone they knew, or to claim that he had forced her to kiss him; she knew, even then, that what she was doing was wrong. Alecto knew enough to hide what she and her brother did from everyone. As they grew older, their relationship grew less and less innocent, though Amycus still resisted. Sometimes, she knew, he wanted what she wanted, but he often denied her. Alecto's one weakness is Amycus, and the fact that she wants him, and wants him to want her. She can't resist the temptation he provides, and she hates when he denies her, and that she has to force him. She still blackmails him when he refuses her, and she knows that although he gives in (and sometimes wants to), he sometimes feels sick about it all, and hates himself for it. Alecto doesn't know why Amycus cares so much about what other people say is 'wrong'.

Alecto does passably well in school, but doesn't want to work hard, and isn't interested in any lessons other than the Dark Arts. She has companions, but not one real friend. There's no one she trusts, and no one who would trust her, if they were smart.
