brief history:
Jeremiah and Ester had two children. Living in England, the children both attended Hogwarts. Devorah a Gryfindor like Jeremiah, and Ezriel a Ravenclaw like his mother. They learned swiftly how different their children were. Dev was very cunning and outgoing, always up to something, yet very loyal to her brother. Ez was more reserved at first, assessing everything before making an appropriate decision. They were sure that their children would turn out wonderfully.
And so they did. When Ezriel was 18 his sister married and his mother couldn’t have been more happy. Jeremiah and Ester had been doting parents to both of them from day one and had very close relationships with their children. The closest was that of Ezriel and Ester. Ezriel had been named after Ester’s father and she often liked to read the boy biographies and war journals and tell him tales of swashbucklers and soldiers. His passion for history stems from these encounters as do his teaching methods. Ester was a beautiful woman with a heart of gold. Everyone loved her.
Naturally once Devorah was married she pestered Ezriel to at least bring home a girlfriend. He never did purely because he never thought any of his girlfriends were worth introducing. Sure they were lovely girls and very nice. Suitable women of course, but not quite what he wanted for the long hall. Even if at the time they had seemed perfect. He knew when he felt he could bring a woman to meet his mother for the first time, then and only then would he marry her. And it never happened.
Two years later Ester was killed. She had fallen very ill and even with all of the support and effort from the medical staff at St. Mungo's, Ester could not recover, and she passed away peacefully in her sleep. Ezriel was hit hard after that and turned to drinking for comfort. He bottles most of his pains now, with no one to tell them to. And women seem to run from a man in his position. He thinks that if they run then they aren't worth the trouble of chasing.
Three years ago, his father met a new woman, Meredith. She’s a lovely woman, but tries a little too hard for Ezriel’s taste. He doesn't want to bring anyone to meet her for he doesn't value her opinion at all. She’s a retired service nurse from the psychiatric’ ward in St. Mungo’s and only wants to care for Ez. Though he pays her little attention, he does understand his father’s fondness of her and doesn't discount their relationship at all.
Now all Ezriel focuses on is his work, which he loves very much, and trying not to be such a hermit all the time. Occasionally he feels like he can hear his mother chastising him for not having married yet and having just turned 30. She'd probably scold him for his alcohol abuse as well, but as of late, he's had a pretty good reason to be sober; long time friend, and most recently discovered love interest, Astrid Selwyn.
