Atlanta threw the ball up toward the sky and then raised her racket over her head, making sure that she was lined up with it as it came back down toward earth. With an ‘oomphf’ and a lunge forward, her racket collided with the ball and she set it toward the other direction of the courtyard. Tennis. One of her guilty pleasures. Sure, Lanta had been raised to loath everything in the world that was muggle related, but she found that it was their sports that tempted her the most. There was nothing in the Wizarding world that was like tennis; sure, there was Quidditch, but Lanta played keeper and that wasn’t nearly as exciting as making actual contact with the ball like she was doing now. There was the possibility that she could play beater on the team and get the same ‘thrill,’ but that also meant that she would have to risk potentially breaking a nail, and she would have none of that. Hitting around a tennis ball in the courtyards was a far cry from bludgeoning everyone around her during a quidditch match.
She reached up and wiped off her forehead where the beginnings of beads of sweat had started to form. Although it was September, the sun was shining and she was starting to feel the burn of exercise. Her eyes settled on the ball that lay dormant on the corner of the courtyard and she began trotting in that direction. When she reached it, she leaned down and scooped it up. Looking around, she wondered where everyone else had gotten off to. It was a shame to be inside on such a pretty day like this.
Gently, she threw the ball back up into the air, but this time, instead of hitting it at hard as she could, she gave it a soft loft. It moved through the air at a slower speed and landed near the middle of the courtyard in the green area near the fountain. Atlanta moved slowly through the grass and finally ended up next to it. Sometimes she felt like a dog, playing tennis by herself and then fetching the ball. But she didn’t really want anyone else to see her playing a muggle sport. She didn’t want them to know how much she actually enjoyed them. Sure, she might have been a Hufflepuff, but she had standards. Or at least, that was what she told herself. Instead of picking up the ball, she dropped her racket next to it and then went to sit on the edge of the fountain, skimming her fingers over the top of the water. It was then that she heard a rustle and realized that she wasn’t alone on the Hogwarts Grounds, ”It’s rude to sneak up on people, you know.” She said through her teeth, refusing to turn around to see who it was that had joined her.
