This disaster was just going further downhill. While running was the only option for Lily to escape, the fear and adrenaline was intoxicating to a werewolf. He knew that the spice of fear would just want him to feed more than before. It was like taunting a starving man with a beautifully cooked steak. Poor Remus for the horrible feelings he would end up going through if anything truly bad happened tonight.
Back beyond that was a regret that Lily had to go through this. While she should know about Remus' problem, she should have let the other teen be ready to tell her himself. He had a hard enough time coping with the fact that the Marauders had found out when they were twelve. It was a big deal and as sensitive as the red head was, she just bulled her way through something that really needed time and finesse.
What was done was done and now they had to protect their friends from Remus. Sirius snarled back, uncaring that a werewolf was growling at him. They were friends and the wolf seemed to remember the large dog and stag quiet well. He was trying to warn them off, trying to ease them out of its way before hurting them. It was good to know, but it meant little when the larger beast pushed passed, chasing after the downed human.
The large dog shared a glance with Prongs and bound after Moony, head down as he ran through the grass. In this form he had little hope of doing anything with a headbutt, but he had better teeth than a deer did. He let James force his antlers into Remus' side, moving to bite at Moony's front legs. He even reared up, pushing at the werewolf to get him facing toward the forest more than Lily.
With a nose like Moony's he knew out of sight, out of mind was a stupid thing to think, but hoped that chasing more defenseless animals between the trees would be thrilling enough. It wouldn't ease all the werewolf's needs, but it would keep Remus sane and that was more important. Padfoot could only hope that the werewolf would soon give up fighting its friends and just give in. Hey, maybe there was a nice human they could track through the woods. James and Sirius would never allow it to go so far as a true attack, but he didn't mind trying to let the hunter out a little.
