“ once you have tasted flight YOU WILL WALK THE EARTH WITH YOUR EYES TURNED SKYWARDS ”

Severus had been very busy. For the past week, he had thrown himself into his research with heedless abandon. To start with, he had been working to perfect the Wolfsbane and Blood-Replenishing Potions. Mastering these two potions would give him the necessary insight (along with the other research he was undertaking) to fulfill his promise to Tyson Edgemont. They were going to get a sample of werewolf blood from Remus Lupin, then Snape would attempt to pasteurize the infectious properties therein. It was a bold and risky venture, which was exactly what he needed to occupy his time. He could not afford to stop for one minute. If he was not kept engaged by something then he was going to lose his mind. It was a paramount necessity that he remain too engrossed in work to think of anything else. The moment his brain was idle, his thoughts would drift back to that rainy evening in the library and the kiss he had stolen. He could not, could not think of Lily Evans. The pain was too raw. Instead, he focused on Edgemont's request as though his life depended upon it — undoubtedly his sanity did.
His burst of dedication had made him a rarity around the Slytherin Common Room this week. No doubt Lucius Malfoy would note his absence, and wonder what had become of him. But here he was, again, tonight, by himself in an unused room in the dungeons. Tyson had been as good as his word, and supplied Snape with any potions ingredients he requested. His stock of them were strewn across several tables near where he was working. His cauldron was bubbling away, and he hovered above it like a great bat. He stirred, once clockwise, three times counter. The deep, red liquid began to emit a strong copper smell, but it was not thickening ideally. He consulted his notes. The recipe called for only one ounce of dragon liver, but if he added another half-ounce, perhaps with a few drops of honeywater to prevent phlegmatism... Yes! The potion because satisfyingly viscous, but without any signs of solidifying. He scribbled the annotation onto his notes. It was going so well, and he was so completely absorbed with the Blood-Replenishing Potion, that Severus did not notice the door open, nor the figure who entered.
