"A double? Oooookay..." So, it looked like drinking was going to be socially exceptable at this party, considering the quantity it was being ordered at. Also, by the looks of things, Eddie Muler was going to be quite quickly out drank by his girlfriend- An only slightly embarrassing situation that couldn't be helped due to the boy's inexperience with hard liquor. The Ravenclaw lad was a lightweight, and if he wanted to be in a state where he'd be able to drag Cait out of a fight, he needed to go easy on the alcohol. Not that he was expecting a fight or anything. It's just that he knew his little Irish girlfriend had a tenancy to brawl, and that she was still upset over her nasty break up with Joram. Who could blame her? Some nasty things had been said that night.
Eddie sipped at his glass and took the time to look around the group of gathered individuals. He'd seen some of these face before- from parties and such- but he really didn't know anyone. That was a lie though! The more he looked about, the more faces he recognized! Hestia, Sirius... that blond he had danced with by the lake... It was an interesting to be the fly on the wall in a room full of kids with 'potential'. He wondered what everyone here had done to deserve a swanky invite, and how many of them were just tag-a-longs like himself. If these people were supposedly the best Hogwarts had to offer, what made them so, and where were they going in life? The boy was so busy caught in his thoughts about other people, he almost missed Slughorn's speech entirely. Good thing he had Cait there to ground his wandering mind. She pulled him through the thralls to the table and they listened politely till they were given the go ahead to do as they please. At that point both their minds seemed to turn to the same thing: Food.
The buffet that was set up was piled high in cute little party pleasers, many of which made Eddie sick just looking at their candy coated goodness. The two set about filling their plates which became more of a chore than it should have been, mostly because half of the food Eddie picked up never even made it to his plate. He taste tested each savoury morsel that he came across, making room on his plate for only the best pieces. Cait wasn't helping matters either. She kept shoving food in his face, and he kept happily gobbling it up. "Ooh! Was that last on pork?" he giggled, chewing on the little spring roll-thing she had offered him. " Throw a few of those on my plate, please!" Eventually they were stocked up with enough little things to equal a dinner and Ed pulled himself away from the buffet before he could do anymore damage to the mini kebabs and stood around like a lost puppy, waiting for Cait to guide him.
"Sooo are we supposed to sit at the table then?" he could just make out name tags in front of the guests, "Is there assigned seating? Doesn't that feel kind of juvenile?" He laughed, though what he was really saying was 'Lord, please don't have us stuck beside Joram'. Eddie had always been the type to open himself up wholly and quickly in any type of relationship. His friendship with Joram had been no different. Though he had known the boy for only a little over a month, he had really felt a connection, and fighting with him down was getting so deep under Ed's skin, it was driving him crazy. He was already ready to forgive Joram of any trespasses against himself, if Joram asked him to; He was ready to except his friend back with open arms and very few bruised feelings. But it wasn't up to him. This was Cait's battle, and he expected that forgiving Joram would be much more difficult for her.
"This all feels reeeeeaaally weird." he giggled to her under his breath. "I feel like we stick out like a sore thumb." He couldn't wait to get his drink into him and to start feeling relaxed.
