Jessie’s mouth dropped open. ”Wait just me? The hell did Ah do beside try to help some kid Ah’d never seen before,” she demanded of Joram, following them down the hall. Why would she own him anything at all. Technically this was a favor only for Eddie and had nothing to do with her, except for the fact she wasn’t just going to send him off down the halls looking for help all beat up like that. When Joram explained what his father would have done, Jessie was a bit relieved they had found Joram instead, since she really wanted to get this thing over with and back up to bed.
”Sorry Eddie, I really wasn’t payin’ attention to what they looked like as they ran like cowards back down the hall,” Jessie said then laughed. ”As for a smart one, I don’t remember that, but if you say one was smart I’ll take your word for it.” The dark haired American rolled her eyes at the back of Joram’s head. Why the hell would she have been looking for help if she was going to go in herself. She was rash and foolhardy, not stupid and suicidal, even if it came across that way sometimes. But Joram’s next words earned him a glare from her. ”I never asked ya to do anythin’ for me. It ain’t my wand that ended up in someone else’s hands.”
Why in the world was Joram being such a jerk right now. She just couldn’t figure it out. Had she done something she didn’t even know had offended him? That seemed the most likely thing, but then he should say that instead of just seeming pissed off at her; and then be pissed off. Jessie continued to follow them, mulling it over in her mind when Eddie turned around with an adorably apologetic face, put his hands together and whispered that he’d make it up to her. She smiled and shook her head to tell him that wasn’t necessary. ”So what do you want from me Mr. Mortelle,” she said rather stiffly.
