The end of February brought better weather, especially after a cold snap that lasted for about a week. Gavin was surprised when he woke and actually saw the icicles on his roof melting. It seemed quite promising. With a sweater on, he realized that he didn’t even need a jacket. He apparated to the Ministry in good spirits and made it to his office without incident. No one seemed to be chasing after him for once, and that in itself was a blessing. He left his office door open like he always did when he was alone. He tried to make it clear that he was always there to talk to for his employees. He didn’t want to come off as snotty or arrogant.Gavin sat at his desk and pulled out a letter from Eileen. Despite only knowing each other for only a month, the two had been sending each other letters and seeing each other quite regularly. He didn’t think much of it. They weren’t in a relationship, after all. They were just friends. However, he did find himself looking at the words that she wrote to him regularly and it always brought a grin to his face. His feelings for her didn’t fade after turning her down, but rather they stayed rather constant. Gavin had sort of hoped that they would have gone away and that it had been a spur of the moment kind of thing, especially due to the danger they had encountered together, but they didn’t.Just as he got to the last line of her letter, a woman appeared at his office door. She was pretty, blonde, and Gavin had admittedly had sex with her a few times within the past month. She was rather new and was a secretary for the department. He regretted sleeping with her, but he didn’t stop. It was clear that she was more interested in him than he was with her, but he needed some sort of distraction from Eileen or else he was going to go crazy. This woman looked a little too much like Eileen for it to be a coincidence, but Gavin ignored those thoughts too. She smiled at him and he returned it in kind. There was nothing really wrong with Dana, but there was nothing that really attracted Gavin to her other than physically. They didn’t really have anything in common, and he always found that an uncomfortable silence always fell between them. He had never brought her home, though, they had always gone to her place. He wasn’t even sure how it had started. He had never even told Eileen.“How can I help you?” he asked politely.“I had fun with you the other night,” Dana told him. Her shoulders were back and her posture was impeccable. She was confident and knew what she wanted. Gavin had a feeling she usually got what she wanted. At that moment, someone appeared behind Dana. He felt his heart sink uncomfortably. As far as he was aware, no one knew about his adventures with Dana, and he had hoped to keep it that way.
